Thanksgiving 1971 TO THE FOOTBALL TEAM OF 1971 He must apply his experience to life — The True Athlete As I write this we have but two games to go and we are hoping for a big surge in team effort to finish the year strong. This year was our year of many challenges. Starting the season with a change in coaching staff along with several unexpected injuries and illnesses, the Lords of 1971 had an up-hill battle to fight right from the beginning. Because of their tremendous dedication and desire to be a winner they hung-in-there and as the team slowly gathered their forces, confidence and experience, they started to mold into a well respected, tough Lansdowne-Aldan team. Led by their outstanding captains, a great group of seniors and a very capable group of underclassmen, the team worked for perfection and towards a successful season. In our contest the players and coaches learned to accept victory with humility, and defeat with resignation. We showed our happiness as well as our sorrows — We hung together — We were one — We were the mighty Lords of 1971. In the background now, the underclassmen will emerge to accept new responsibilities and dedication to L-A in the coming year, while in the foreground the seniors must continue in the leadership role and inspire others in the proper way of life in the new role in our society. Frank Honess, Captain of 1972 Wrestling Team The trademark of a champion is his ability to come back. Coping with a change in coaching staff and consequently a change in philosophy, Lord grapplers hustled their way to a respectable 7-4 season. After several early season losses the champions in each squad emerged, and the team went from a 2-3 record to a 7-4 finish by winning5 of their last 6 contests. A lot of practice and sweat paid off during the sectional wrestling tournament. Six of the team members were in the semi-finals at Lower Merion and eventually Frank Honess was crowned champion in the 127 lb. wt. class and Richard Irons was runner-up to the tourney's outstanding wrestler at 180 lbs. Both men went on to be proud representatives in the District Tournament at Cheltenham. With a growing interest in the Jr. High and Elementary school wrestling, LA can look forward to many more sectional.
