What is a school? It is not .merely an inanimate building but a living kaleidoscope of students and teachers in a wide spectrum of activities and moods. It is a student quietly contemplating a test, then cheering wildly for the football team. It is individuals dashing eagerly through the halls on Friday, then filing sleepily back on Monday. It is students writing frantically to finish a term paper, then releasing the tension at an open house. A school reflects the students’ emotions: happy with the snow, dreary in the rain, and lazy in the spring. It includes the wonder of discovery and the sudden flash of understanding. It contains the pride of accomplishment and the humility of error. These many facets form a colorful design with significance as varied as the human personality. 1966 LAHIAN LANSDOWNE-ALDAN HIGH SCHOOL LANSDOWNE, PENNSYLVANIA Mary E. Lindenmuth 2 Mary E. Lindenmuth, in her capacity as guidance counselor, has helped many students find their niches in life. She has listened to their problems, discussed their uncertainties, and encouraged their ambitions. Miss Lindenmuth, a graduate of Ringtown High School, received her bachelor of science degree from Temple University. She attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her masters degree. Later, Miss Lindenmuth studied methods of education in English and mathematics at Rutgers University. She has had an extensive and diversified teaching career. In 1931 Miss Lindenmuth began her work at Landsdowne-Aldan as a geometry teacher. She became assistant principal and director of guidance in 1939. From 1942 until 1946 Miss Lindenmuth was Assistant Personnel Officer in the WAVES, stationed at Seattle, Washington. After World War II, she returned to Landsdowne to continue as advisor and principal. The students of Lansdowne-Aldan, in appreciation of the kindness and consideration shown to us as individuals, dedicate the 1966 Lahian to Mary E. Lindenmuth. 3 ACADEMICS “The daily academic-quest — We approach truth. Forsake it. Then approach it again. If only we had more time ...” Anonymous E. Carl ion Abbott Superintendent Wayne A. J965 The year 1965-1966 brought Lansdownc-Aldan High School one ol the finest athletic seasons in many years. Under the guidance of Coach Ray Spafford. the undefeated Lords captured the Section III crown. Since 1928, no LA team has been undefeated. Many sighted the Lords — Chichester game as the most exciting ever played on Stuart Field. The Lassies hockey team compiled a creditable 4-3-1 record. The most challenging game was against Nether Providence. In the last minute the Lassies tied the score 2-2. The varsity basketball team placed fourth in a torrid Section III race. The best game the Lords played was against Darby. This game proved to be the first game Darby had lost on their riome court in fifty-three home games. It was Darby's only league loss. The varsity wrestling team compiled the best record in Mr. Seibert’s stay as head coach. With a 12-2 log, the Lord matmen easily captured the Section III crown. The biggest win was against Upper Darbv. LA’s Steve Paxson captured the State 138 lb. crown. The girls’ varsity basketball team won six of their eight contests. Thrilling victories over Darby-Colwyn and Chichester highlighted the season. The baseball and track teams had solid competition, but won many important contests. Mr. Charles P. I thank the teachers for all their help and kindness and I thank you, dear students, for making it possible for me to spend such a wonderful year at this great school. I have learned many things about your country and your way of life that will accompany me through my entire life. I hope you have learned a few things about my country, too.
