I guess I'm responsible for everything! “Cornelia dear, I don't like you consorting with strange Frenchmen. Our water basin. The beastly thing won't work. OUR HEARTS WERE YOUNG AND GAY” “Engulfed! 100 No, You needn't be concerned about me. I'm really quite over it now. Rancid peanut butter, Saturday rehearsals, safety pockets, disinfectants, and waves of laughter were all part of this year's Senior Play. Our Hearts Were Young and Gay describes the misadventures of drama student Cornelia Skinner, portrayed by Cathie Williams, and Emily Kimbrough, played by Susan Patterson, as they vacation in Paris. The play opens as Mr. and Mrs. Skinner wish bon voyage to the girls. On board ship Cornelia and Emily meet two young medical students Leo and Dick, Russ Christman and Jim Dunbar. Upon reaching Paris Cornelia’s hopes of becoming an actress are crushed by drama coach Stanley Ber-son who turns out to be an opportunist interested only in meeting the famous Otis Skinner. The play was directed by Miss Linda Burnett assisted by student directors Lynn Hones and Marian Stallsmith. Other cast members included Lynne Haelle, Nancy Schacht, Richard Yates, Barbara Welsh, Janet Hill, Sandy Smith, Ken Pyle, Ted Per-rill, Dolly Miller, and Gilbert Feinberg. Measles, stowaways, romance, bedbugs, and faulty gas meters kept a record-breaking crowd highly amused. ••I -yai my thought. Monsieur Skinner—thot perhaps you could orronge an American tour for me. NIGHT LIFE Junior Class Officers and dates: Linda Collins, Miff Hood, Carol Sticklin, Roy Kabakjion, Pam Scott, Dove Hoffman, Jamie Kinsman. Greg Ellis, Carol Nicholson, and Barry Drake. 105 Misfortune seemed to follow the Class of 19641 The state required junior licenses, and the administration rescinded senior exemptions. Snow came for the sophomore hop, and rain fell for the junior prom. Times Square was dark, and Washington was wet. Calamities, but memories deepened, and friendships sharpened. November 22, the date of the New York Trip and the death of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The gaiety of Radio City Music Hall was exchanged for the calm quiet of a great cathedral. At the UN, the Economic and Social Council discussed the problems of Africa. A bus tour of the Lower East Side, the Bowery, and Chinatown completed our “Americanization”. Only seven bewildered men missed the train for Baltimore. We enjoyed a quick tour of the Naval Academy and Carvel Hall, and then we rode to Washington and the Roger Smith Hotel. Fond memories linger: the sharp clean spire of the Washington Monument and the view of a beautiful city, a large grave and two small ones, the subway ride from the Senate Building to the Capitol, and the inevitable sore feet. To celebrate a quadricentennial we traveled to Princeton's McCarter Theater to see Shakespeare's Othello. The Drake Hotel was the scene of the senior prom on May 22. Then we rushed to the Alpine Inn for the Afterglow, a glamorous affair sponsored by senior parents. Exams passed. Commencement came on June 10. Seniors were serious as the doors of Lansdowne-Aldan closed and the portals of the academic, commercial, and industrial worlds opened. It's been work —and fun.
