man-sized jobs teaching us how to write and speak clearly and persuasively. Throughout high school English students absorb the rules of grammar and the works of numerous authors. Plays help us to im- prove our speech and our ability to make others understand us. History is invaluable because it enables us to use to advantage the wise actions and mistakes of those who have lived before us. After studying the history of Pennsylvania, America, and the en- tire world, we can recognize the tremendous re- sponsibility involved in doing one's part as a cit- izen. Dad knows that a good education will im- prove our capacity to shoulder the burden of running the world. Knowledge of languages breaks down a barrier between nations. Responsible students tackle STUDENT COUNCIL The teen-agers ol' today are the citizens ol' tomorrow. This truism is ever-present in our dadsi minds, and they realize that we must be well prepared to take over their jobs as vigilant guard- ians of our democratic institutions. Science and math prepare pupils for tomorrow by presenting to them the orderliness ol' world forces and by instilling in them a valuable curi- osity. Scientilic training in chemistry, physics. and biology and comprehension ol' algebra, geom- etry. and trigonometry help us to discard super- stition and prejudice which hamper international and intranational relations. These subjects train the student to keep his mind open and to search all possible solutions ol' a problem. To deal with misunderstanding and intolerance. people should be able to express themselves. At times. we may tongue harsh phrases against our studies, our teachers. and the fact that we are compelled to attend school. How- ever, no one can deny that our students do not walk the halls with grim or worried looks. Truly. school can be and is a lot of fun as well as work to most youngsters. Our school program contains a vast number Gt' varied activities, enough to satisfy ullokinds appetites. Plays, dances, art decpralions, and in- numerable jobs of helping out have attracted huni dreds of studengs during the school year. The , i 5 Q ll o 9 v . A c 7 lighter side of school life is filled with moments of happiness. working together, getting hands dirty, learning lines. tripping over furniture. getting bawled out for errors--and the joy of great accomplishment. Our school today is far dillerent from the purely academic school of our fathers and mothers. Truly, our parents recognize this difference and haye been willing to spend money and pay taxes fo make sure that our school atmosphere is a most pleasant OTIC for their growing youngsters.
