CUNTENTS H1 tory of Lansdale Hugh School Lansdales f1rst hugh school was housed un a remodeled factory at the sute ot the present Green Street School From there ut moved un 1887 to the Broad Street School where the f1rst commencement of the Lansdale Schools was held on June 29 1888 wuth four graduates The largest class un the hustory of Lansdale Hugh School consustung of 176 students was grodu ated on June 8 1948 J Horace Landus was Lansdale Hugh Schools f1rst pruncupal After holdung thus posutuon he be came County Superuntendent of Schools uses on East Maun Street un 1913 and the Maun Street School was deducated un the followung year Furst to be graduated un the Lansdale Theatre was the class of 1923 Prevuous to thus tume graduatuon was held un Musuc Hall In September 1922 George F Munnuch became pruncupal of the hugh school Upon hus death un 1927 Herman l. Bushop took over the posutuon and has very capably held ut to thus present year The new senuor hugh buuldung was deducated un 1931 and another addutuon to thus buuldung was completed sux years later The ground comprusung thurty acres aduounung the school buuldung was purchased from the Charles S Jenkuns Estate un 1943 to be used as an athletuc and practuce field for the Junuor and Senuor Hugh School The new Vocatuonal School whuch was erected on the plot of ground bordered by Church and Penn Streets was completed for class use un the fall of 1947 ln 1950 Lansdale Hugh School became Lans dale Jount Hugh School upon the admussuon of pupuls from Montgomeryvulle Townshup and Lune Lexungton Independent Townshup A uounture has now been effected wuth North Wales Hatt1eld Townshup and Borough Upper Gwynedd Townshup and Towamencun Town shup Havung served uts purpose well at the end of thus present school year Lansdale Jount Hugh School wull close uts doors for the last tume guvung way to the new North Penn Hugh School Q 0 , . , . , I I ' I . . In the Ambler game, Lansdale dropped a tough 32-18 decision. After losing the next three games, the Huskies came back with a thrilling 37-6 victory over Upper Dublin. Lans- dale's repetition followed in the next game with Bob Ives passing to Fran Robbins to upset Upper Moreland, 12-6. Hi Loux's excellent kicking helped the squad to hold the Quakers to a Tl 0 decusuon The Huskues completed the season by beatung Central Bucks to brung back the trophy whuch had been theurs for two years Bob Ives con nected wuth a 30 yard pass to Fran Robbuns whuch was good for an addutuonal 29 yard run and set up the first T D on the one yard lune In the second half, Duck Nyce took the kuck-off and ran it back 60 yards for the second score. This was accomplished by Hi Loux's key block along with the excellent blocking by Ron Krieble, Paul Cope, and Tony Rullo. The success of this season was shown when Dick Nyce, Tony Rullo, Harry Rakowski, and Fran Robbins were named on the All-Bux-Mont team. Furs! Although the team didn't begin practices until late, the girls worked hard and did well in the season under the durectuon of Muss Marubelle Waldo Led by the team's captaun, Molly Wolford, the gurls won theur last four games and finushed the season by defeating Central Bucks, a team thus far un- beaten. The team had a very busy season which included eight league games, the opener against Palisades.
