Actually what these older persons say IS true We should be very happy that the Age of Chlvalry oi the twelfth and thlrteenth centurles wlth all 1ts pageantry and rnartlal exercxse does not exlst today The fact IS that chlvalry rn tts own age rested for the most part on slave labor It could not SUPERINTENDENT RALPH n sM1'rH exlst ln a modern c1v1l1zat1on whxch tends most strongly to remove social barrlers We would dlsagree most heartlly wlth the oldsters that the quahhcatrons of the ldeal kmght of the age of chlvalry are no longer found m our present c1v1l1zat1on It we thlnk of those quallfrcatlons as honor protectlve klndness to the weak generos1ty gallantry and sxmllar vlrtues we need not look far aheld to tlnd these precepts hlghly developed ln human behavlor problems A French phllosopher spoke truth fully when he sald The trouble wlth our tlmes IS that the future 1S not what xt used to be however I honestly belleve that you young people have SLlff1Cl6Ill conhdence ln the future and control ln yourselves to con quer the dltflcultles whlch you will face how ever great they may be Have I helped to develop a generatxon of young people wxth hearts of rags and souls ol chalk 7 My an swer IS an emphatlc No' . . l . lt is true that you face extremely pressing . 3 . Typing Club. sburg S E N I 0 R S Semor Class Officers Kay Sell Secretary Iames Dunkelberger Prestdent Iohn Fatzmger Treasurer Kenneth Derby Vtce Presldent Sen1or Class At long last we are sen1ors' Are we glad or do we look to the future w1th a feelmg of 1nsecur1ty and wlsh that we were sophomores aga1n7 Three years ago we the Sen1or Class of 53 were really exclted as we rushed mto the corrldor the f1rst day of school and began our hxgh school careers Ken Derby our class presldent was asslsted by Iack Fatzmger as v1ce presldent Gtnny Hmes as secretary and Shlrley Reed as treasurer Mr Kenneth Whlt ney was elected to serve as our class adviser Our class was represented 1n almost every act1v1ty The blggest proyect of the year was ptd s Flmg whlch featured a red and whxte cupld as the center of attractxon Returmng agaln ln the fall of 51 we elt that we were one step nearer the day when we would be known as sen1ors Our 118 mem bers elected the followmg as the class off1 cc s Robert Pysher presldent hm Schoettler v1ce presxdent Kay Sell secretary and lack Fatzlnger treasurer Because Mr Whxtney left our school Mtss Marxlyn Harer was chos en as our new class adviser Our fxrst blg soclal event of that year was the Iumor Mtss Dance Glnny HIDGS was our lovely Iunlor Mlss of 52 The W1llow Grove Ball Room was the dazzllng S119 of our Iumor Prom whxch thus clxmaxed our 1un1or year Those two years were good ones but the best day of all came xn September when we f1nally attained the rank of sen1ors It d1d not take long for us to get lost 1n the rush of th1s our last year The task of gu1d1ng us as we sponsored our dances and planned our varxous act1v1t1es was bestowed upon the shoulders of our capable presldent hm Dun kelberger Ken Derby served as V1C9 presl dent Kay Sell was secretary and lack Fatz xnger treasurer Durmg the course of the year many of us partlctpated 1n the play operetta and Band and Chorus Concert whlch were the mam stage productxons Before we knew and many more act1v1t1es to be crowded tnto our busy schedules W1th class nxght came the slgnmg of yearbooks Two days after the Vesper Service we experxenced the thrlll o graduatxon Yes the day had arrlved and we found ourselves glldlng down the axsle ln our caps and gowns to the tune of Pomp and Cxrcumstance The clxmax of our hlgh school socxal l1fe was the Sen1or Ball held on Iune ll at the Manufacturers Country Club at Oreland Every one dancmg that ntght could not help remembermg that th1s was the end of hls hlgh school days These three years were dellghtful ones and xt IS wlth these fond memorxes tn mmd that we leave to go out mto the world I that of sponsoring our Valentine dance, Cu- it, spring was here.
