SUIJCFVISCS UI' IHHCI' DCTCIISC PI'OgI'2lfI'l OUR EDUCATIO AL SYSTEM THE members of the board of school directors of Lansdale believe that a sound program of education is very essential to the perpetuation of the American way of life. Americans like the expression my rights. ln order to be able to properly exercise the rights and privileges which the Constitution guarantees to every citizen of the I'nited States, each one of us as a citizen must know a great deal about what our way of life means and the part each one of us mllst play in it. In order that there may be rights and privileges for each of us in America, no one of us should be permitted to escape certain fundamental duties and obligations. lt means, therefore, that all the citizens of the l'nited States must know the meaning of democracy and the contribution each and every one of us must make to guarantee its existence. Our forefathers sensed the importance of this essential quality and understanding of our principles of government: therefore, they strongly endorsed a universal program of public education. The board of school directors in Lansdale believes that the best schools are none too good for our young people. The local directors know that if the program to be offered in our schools is to be worthwhile, the people of the community must be willing to make sacrifices in order to pay the cost of such a program. The directors have, therefore, tried to raise enough money each year through taxation to provide the kind of school program which they believe the people of our community wantg keeping in mind, of course, the financial ability of the people to support such a program. VVe hope that the girls and boys do fully appreciate the efforts that are being expended in their behalf and that all will make the most of the opportunities being offered them to acquire a well-rounded education, which is generally believed to be so essential to the maintenance of our liberties.
