HIGHLIGHTS OF LAN SDALEHIG Recently there appeared in an educational journal which I read some interesting figures. Of the eighty-two million ,adults in, our country, eighteen or more years of age, only six million completed high school. Fifteen million started but did not finish it. Fifty million have an educational background of eight grades or less. ' Each of you is therefore ,in a rather se- lect group. But perhaps you wonder at times whether the four years spent in high school were worth the time and effort ex- pended. Estimated in terms of knowledge gained, experiences, enjoyed, appreciations developed, ,interests awakened, horizons broadened, judgments sharpened and friend- ships made, there can be but one answer. My congratulations to each one of you! Herman L. Bishop, Principal U21 l read with a great deal of interest in the Contest number of the Talisman the ex- pressions of seniors concerning their high school career. The things which these Se- niors enjoyed the most and the things in which they excelled were not the same. lt would appear from these expressions that Lansdale High School sponsors a desirable type of individualism. l observed in each report expressions of regret for not having made the most of your high school opportunities. This would indi- cate to me that students are willing to prof- it by their mistakes. One does not learn ex- perience but he learns from experience or through experience. Your adjustments to situations will be made by forming right at- titudes. l trust that you will make efforts to form desirable attitudes and thereby at- tain rich experiences. Melvin F.
