The 1978 edition of the Girls' Tennis team ended with a record of 10-4. Mary Favero's singles victory and Kim Morton-Beth Ha- vey's doubles victory led the Lady Lions Tennis team to a surprise first place Capitol Conference Championship for the first time in the school's history. The whole team went to a fifth place District finish, a third place District finish went to Havey and Morton. On Oct. 25-28, 1978 the outstanding team of doubles joumeyed to Arlington Heights for the State Tennis Toumey where they de- feated the York doubles team. In the second match, Champaign beat Kim and Beth, bringing the team to end the season with a top 50 seeding. Juniors Kim Morton, Mary Favero and Beth Havey were first team All-City choices. Senior Dawn Poggenpohl was runner-up and Lisa Ramsey and Ruth Jorgenson received Honor- able Mention. 29

The 1978-79 varsity cheerleading squad consisted of ten mem- bers. They attended cheerleading camp at Western IL University in Macomb, IL. They received a third place team championship. Yvonne Oliea was awarded a fourth place individual award along with Erica Si- gars who had a fifth place finish. The var- sity cheerleaders had a very busy schedule which included foot- ball and basketball games, Pekin Tourna- ment, City Tourna- ment, and Homecoming.
