IEEWEEI , QW: s il UNIOR CLA fi SALE . . THE PEN STRIKES TWICE ....... Why Wasn'I I Informed? Long ago there was a time when people actually listened to announce- ments. For those of you who already don 't know what l'm talking about, announcements are those clever little things that come over the P. A. system fourth and seventh hours every day. What NO! Fourth hour is the one that comes after third hour. That's right. WelL anyway, it seems nobody listens to poor old announcements anymore. And for some reason, they always miss activities, meetings, and bake sales. Why? l wasn't informed! Not quite, people, I always say, You just didn't listen. Yet still this continues. Nowadays, the only thing anybody listens to is whether or not it's their car that's going to be towed away, or if there happens to be a homeroom that period. It is now theoretically possible to announce that the school is burning down, and therefore the junior class bake sale at noon has been cancelled and have more than three-fourths of the student body sleep right through it. Thank God for fire alarms. What? NO, there wasn't supposed to be a bake sale today at noon. Tha! was just a hypothetical situation. Brother! But how else are we supposed to let people know what's happening? lt used to be you could use a handy little invention called a bulletin board but that was back when people could read. Of course, now all psychologists say people react to colors. Maybe we can put up fuchsia bulletin boards. I don't know, but somebody ought to do something. What? They put new announcements on? Well, why wasn 't I informed? OL! I5 BURNING SIUDENTCD EIIIIIN . J UN MOR UNCIL. . . THE PEN STRIKES ....... I1 41 62 2 2, HOMK VISITOR of-4 QTREJ 1 2. 5,1 no I . I - Y I . ls School Spirit Dead Af L. H. S.? i X M bown Bmou vhs-neo N .N , You wonder anymore what school spirit is. ls it just showing up at every ballgame? ls it cheering at assemblies? What the heck is school spirit? Someone once told me that spirit was going through gymnastics for more than four weeks, but I think that that is not quite the right idea. School spirit is when you stay up till four a. m. working on your class float for homecoming. School spirit is buying a candy bar from everyone who sells them even though it means buying twelve. School spirit is rooting like crazy at city tournaments when your team has a record of 0-9. This is the down-to-earth real nitty-gritty stuff behind school spirit. Since there are still a few people running around our hallowed halls with this particular affliction, it has not totally died. However, a funeral may be in order in the years to come. School spirit is not promoted by the schooL it's promoted by the individual. lt's up to all of us to keep the level from falling to the point of no return because with school spirit, a good school becomes better. Think about it-you are the school. 0 Q Q36 Qf5QwpQ W veg -1 . QU Q4 1 QQN , 7 I E QQ WIN V 5 f ' S ,Q XIX f I N y Off? ff W Q f 4 Q5 ,gf ff W J? F5 5 5 M K I IU M X. ff! f AW. f f ,QM MQW .
