Wheeling Y-TEENS High on the list of worthwhile organizations is the Y-Teens, sponsored by Miss Parrotte. The sole purpose of this club is to promote fellowship and cooperation among its many members. The girls in Y-Teens are kept busy all year round engaging themselves in community and school projects. During Thanksgiving and llO3l Christmas the Washington Street Mission re- ceives a basket contribution from Lanphier's very generous Y-Teens. Although the girls are active in community affairs, they do not forget the students. Fre- quently, they have cake sales to build up their funds and at the same time, provide the student body with very delicious cakes. Each year the members participate in an all-city potato chip sale to raise money for the opportunity to send several girls to camp and to permit a few girls to attend the national convention of Y-Teens. This year Lanphier's Y-Teens took the laurels for selling the most potato chips. Besides their school projects, this group also prepares a Mother-Daughter banquet and often mothers of other clubs come as guests. The meetings of the club vary from time to time. Some of the programs are discussions on improvements that might be made for the school, While others are purely social. lt is indeed a credit to the school to have such an organization of girls promoting so much for their school and community. RADIO GUILD Radio Guild serves two purposes. Primar- ily, it exists to encourage any student who may have the desire to enter the field of radio as an occupation. Secondly, it is educational even for those who have joined its ranks merely to study the techniques of radio. Membership, open to all students, does not require any specific age or grade qualifica- tions. A pleasant speaking voice and a flair for drarnatics constitute sufficient requirements. Our radio guild broadcasts every Monday evening over W.C.V.S. at 7:15 P.M., under the able direction of Dr. Walker. Their productions vary with each program. Often a light drama is presented, while other programs are dedicated to the discussion of contemporary problems. During this year, the guild completed a series of thirteen broadcasts. Rambling Around Illinois and Youth Talks It Over were prepared as topics for dramati- zation. HCVN l N. Glftsscofk, P. Sutcr, I. Watts. ROW 2 l. Miller, M. Wlicoler, D. IOHNSON Under the fine coaching of Mr. Ander- ll 201 sort and Mr. Depp, Lanphier has in years past turned out a number of good football teams, and this year's team was no ex- ception. The football team was not the most impressive as far as its won and lost rec- ord was concerned, but it was by far one of the sChool's best in other ways. The team's scholastic standing was one of the best the school has known, its sportsman- ship would have been hard to excel, and its conduct on and off the field was above reproach. Although starting out as an exceed- ingly young team, Lanphier opened the season with an l8-O win over the Rail- splitters from Lincoln, but then succumbed to a powerful team from Peoria Central, 39-U. The next three games were road games: the first at Car- linville where the Lions won l2-6 from the Cavaliers. The following week, Lan- phier traveled to Decatur where they suf- fered a stinging 52-6 defeat at the hands of the Big Twelve team. The Lions wound up the year by turning in their best per- formance of the season battling a strong Edwardsville team to a Z5-25 deadlock. Despite a record of only three wins against six losses, Lanphier looks eagerly toward next season.
