K-1944499641: S HOME ECONOMICS The Home Economrcs Department ha reached another mrlestone th1s year The freshman classes have been made a part of the State Vocatronal Homemakmg pro gram recervmg federal funds made avatl able by the George Deen Act Thrs makes 1t possrble for the teachers Mrss Ruth Wme man and Mrss Dorotny Kellar to v1s1t the homes of therr freshman students and to supervrse summer home prorects The enrollment IS greater than eve 354 and about 50 were turned away from a new Home Course rn September because there was no teacher trme ava1lable We beheve that the Work rn these home economrcs classes IS extremely valuable for there we learn to work on true to lrfe prob lems and learn to do by dorng Home eco nomrcs courses are a composrte of hvmg problems A real effort IS made to correlate the knowledge we ga1n wltn the act1v1t1es we do every day The freshman classes are carryrng on home practrces durmg the year and each g1rl w1ll do a summer home prorect Approxrmately half the ttme lS spent rn prac t1ce and half rn study The courses offered th1s year were lrlomemakmg Advanced Foods Advanced Clothmg and Tarlonng The courses 1n the d partment are bemg re organrzed so that rn three years we wrll have a complete l homemak1ng course only the freshman course was changed thts year and rt now mcludes Personal and Socral Relatronshrps Foods Art rn Evetyday Lrfe and Clothmg Next year the sophomore work w1ll lnclucle Fannly Relatronsmps Chlld Care and Tram mg and Foods We hope to have an enlarged enrollment ln future years we hope to be able to accommodate a much larger number of stu dents We feel that every hrgh school g1rl should take th1s course because the ambltron of the ma1or1ty of grrls IS merely to be a house wrfe rt does much 1U prepar1ng her for her future hfe lncrdentally we thrnk that many boys would benefrt from th1s course because there rs always a trme when the knowledge of home economrcs would be extremely use ful to them Dorothy Kellar Ru h E l meman 'Y . ty 4 ,1 ' , X X td l I' T et: QL!
