MUSIC The Chorus Classes tor treshmen and sophomores are perhaps the largest classes 1n Lanph1er An attempt IS made 1n the e classes to unlty VOICGS and to tra1n 1nd1v1d uals to hear and be able to s1ng the part su1ted to them Some work 1n apprec1at1on IS done and an effort made to g1ve a muslcal background so tnat the s1ng1ng done 1n class has meanmg Much mus1c ot every type 19 done and we earnestly try to rmprove the muslcal taste ot the 1Hd1V1dUGlS 1n the chorus classes There IS perhaps no sub1ect that glves better tra1n1ng 1n au1ck th1nk1ng sub ord1nat1on ot self to the good ot the group selt d1sc1pl1ne and accuracy than choral s1ng1ng One s own personahty has to sub merge 1tselt to accompl1sh t1ne ensemble and blend These results are the pract1cal on s that can be measured and evaluated but that greatest good ID choral mus1c wh1ch Edwm E Sach Es ner Dun: QS! 1S the opportunrty tor emotronal QXQIGSSIOU can never be measured The cho1r and chorus work carr1es over det1n1tely 1nto so cral relat1onsh1ps outs1de the school torm mg an answer to that lersure t1me problem wh1ch IS such an ever present one w1th youth The chorus classes took part rn a Chrrst mas pageant s1ng1ng carol backgrounds to the story ot the nat1v1ty They also asststed 1n a program g1ven by the mus1c department durlng Nat1onal Muslc week as a part ot the educatlonal ta1r held at the school Each chorus class prepared a group of songs and thus became part ot a program wh1ch ran durrng the course ot the ent1re even1ng and to wh1ch all patrons ot the school were IH v1ted to attend The two drrectors ot the chorus classes Mr Sach and MISS Duncan devote much ot tne1r t1me 1n rehears1ng and a1d1ng the stu dents ot chorus ID var1ous programs to be grven 1n the school assembl1es and at a n1ght program The chorus classes have cop1es of all the popular songs and pract1ce them 1n chorus They also study the class1cal songs 1n books they have tor th1s purpose The hves ot the old masters are deta1led 1n these books allowlng chorus students to study the wrlters ot mus1c Chorus IS ernoyed by the students and many of them through th1s tra1n1ng go on 'o the band orchestra and cho1r .
