We opened the season with Athens at their track. Lanphi r made a fine snowing in this meet with a victory over the Green Warriors by the score of 60 to 58. Lefty Hinrichs looked very good in winning the high and low hurdles. Newt Coy, Tony Rock- ford, and lack Freeman also got their share of points. The next several meets were rained out and tnings looked bad as the boys were un able to workout due to the ra1n Then came a Saturday on which it didnt rain and even though there was a strong w1nd it didn t stop the Lions from roaring down to Litcheld They made a good showing but the lads from Litch field were a little too tough for tnern and the Lions went down to the tune of 70 to 45. As the weather got warmer so did the Lions and the lads journeyed to lacksonville to the Central Conference meet on May the 4th. Tony Rockford made a fine showing that day and set a new conference record in the half mile. Lanphier went home with third place which was very fine as they have so little practice. In a very tough District Lan- phier scored 3 points. CHEER LEADERS TUMBLING TEAM -,......,.sQ.,4.-.U INTRAMURAL SPORTS tRomcx Cafel WT This year Lanphier had a larger staff of cheerleaders than ever before. The cheers were much better organizd this year than be- fore thanks to this large group of cheerlead- ers. We had two girls who were excellent tumblers. This added much beauty to our heering section lohn Peacher Dorothy Roo erick and Dorothy Gray are the senior cheer leaders whom we wish to thank for thi fine piece of work they have done for our dea old alma mater We have three good one back next year in Eleanor Solomon Franc Gorsek and Bill Davis lf our cheering 1m proves as much next year as it did this year we should have by far the best yelling in the city Mr Cain deserves a lot of credit for ou fine cheering also The boys and girls who worked on this team deserve a big hand from everyone for their fine performances during the intermls sions at basketball games They had to work ve y hard to p rfect the stunts which they gave for the crowds approval Mr Hake de serves lots of credit right along with them as it was he who worked up these stunts and spent many hours of his valuable time after school Our team was the only one of its type in the city and we think all those who had the pleasure of watcning them were well pleased Another very prominent activity among the male sex around Lanphier is the Saturday morning basketball league which is under the direction of Mr Leonard Rake This is a very fine proiect in that it develops boys and gives them experience so that they may make tne varsity squad Coach Sorrels also has a chance to look over boys which show pro ise and put them on one of his teams where they may develop under him while learning the style of play he teaches Tney played ery Saturday and at tne end of the seaso 1 a round robin tourney was neld Roma Cafe came out the winner and the boys on this tearr were presented medals This is the tt ird year we have had a successful intramura season ne Ilvndrod Light 1940 LAN HI STAFF GE ORGI PFTRILU FPO.
