Literary Club The Literary Club, sponsored by Mrs. Dorothy Hut- chison, was founded this year to foster interest in writing and literature. The members also undertook the task of screening material for, and publishing, the magazine, Skaldy. During the year the club has had two distinguished authors speak to them: Mrs. Burt Smith, authoress of Nothing But az Cry, and Winston Bode. who wrote the currently popular Portrait of Pancho. Lanier's literary geniuses prepare, their masterpiece, Skalds. Lanier Latin Club The Lanier Latin Club is designed to further an interest in the Latin language and Roman history. Viewing slides of ancient Rome, a Christmas party and an end-of-school party highlighted the activities of the year. Club members also participated in the city-wide Latin Banquet held at Travis High School. At the final meeting a slave auction was held and first year students were auctioned off to second year students to serve as slaves for the day. President Randy Peschel presides as new senior members of the N,H.S. line up before the stage. National Honor Society The Sidney Lanier Chapter of the National Honor Society is made up of those members of the junior and senior classes who excel in scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Membership is limited to fifteen per cent of the senior class and five per cent of the junior class. This year the group has been active in taking inventory for the science department preparatory to dividing the school and has made funds for scholarships it has awarded.
