Our capitol building is considered by architects to be the most beautiful example of Greek revival architecture in the United States. Historians agree that few buildings have been the scene of more colorful or romantic history than Alabama's capitol, which also served as the first capital of the Confederacy. It is interesting to note that here Jefferson Davis took his oath of office as President of the Confederacy and that here the first Confederate Congress met.

We, the Class of '57, with smiles, or yet a tear Shall swell with grateful, humble pride remembering our Lanier . Lanier so filled with all that's good and right and undefiled, Lanier, a temple where our gifts of love are humbly piled, A high cathedral showering down on all who dwell within The brilliant streams of Learning's light to fill men once again; Her hallowed halls enclosing still such memories cherished true. And nearly bursting with soul's flaming spirit pulsing through Toward thy great purpose. White and Blue, in tribute now may we. As followers in thy guiding light, forever kneel to thee.
