suddenly re membered that we were gosng to have a trsg test th next day and my trsg book was slumbersng peace fully sn my locker upstasrs Iqusetly left the audstorsum and proceeded to work my way up to the thsrd floor My hollow soundsng footsteps echoed loudly through the dark halls I fsnally found my locker and procured the dessred volume I walked over to the wsndow and sat down on the ssll I leaned back agasnst the ssde of the wsndow and looked out over the moonlst athletsc fIeId I must have fallen asleep I have no Idea how long I slept but when I opened my eyes I saw that the moon was rsdsng hsgh In the sky and was fsllsng the locker sectson wsth a ghostly Isght Just as I was about to sump up I heard a nosse It sounded Iske a locker door besng stealthsly opened and closed Then all was sslence I qusckly put assde my fears and qusetly rounded the end of the row of lockers What I saw almost froze my bloodl There before me was a Isttle stooped old man not over three feet tall Hss long shaggy hasr and beard w re snow whste and they almost covered hss face He was dressed ID an old burlap bag and was barefooted Hss wsde starsng eyes blsnked In amaze ment when he saw me He uttered a thsn hsgh pstched squeal and started to run He ran on all fours looking much lske a monkey Hss short bowed legs could not propel hsm fast enough and I caught hsm He fought desperately I held hsm at arms length untsl he stopped squsrmsng When he quseted down I put hsm down and asked hsm who he was H blsnked rather stupsdly and mumbled omethsng After a persod of about fsfteen msnutes I fsnally p rsuaded hIm to talk On questsonsng hsm I found that hss name was Yendss Resnal Iwhsch I later notsced was Ssdney Lamer spelled backwards He sasd that he had lsved all of hIs lsfe In a locker at Lanser and that I was the fsrst person ever to see hsm He came out only at nsght I asked hsm what he ate and he sasd that Mrs Mclnnss always put a bowl of cream outssde the lunch room door for hsm Sh had never seen hsm but had seen the mess In the pantry when hss cream was mssssng He also ate the starch out of the books In the lsbrary He related how he roamed through all the rooms to amuse hsmself By browssng through Mr Harrss books he had developed a remarkable usage of the Englssh language From Msss Gorrses room he pscked up an understandsng of math IHere he proved orally some complscated formulas on the ssne and co ssne of IA Bl whsch Incsdentally we were havsng on the test next dayl He showed a ssmslar knowledge of physscs chemsstry and any other subjects I cared to questson hIm on He told how he amused hsmself by gosng IDIO the band room and playsng dsffscult overtures on all the Instruments at once He further stated that he remembered every school event and actsvsty that had transpsred dursng hss Iodgsng In the busldsng Here I saw a chance to learn somethsng I eagerly grabbed my note book and began to questson hsm on events dursng my three years stay at Lanser As he had the gsft of seesng the future part of hIs report was to some extent prophetscal He started off by tellsng how he gsggled over o.sr bewsldered faces when fsrst we stumbled sn as sophomores He related many Interestsng conversatnons whsch he had heard through the thsn walls of hss cell In these he heard of all our trsals wsth geometry brology and Latsn He also heard how much we actually ensoyed fsttsng IDTO the maze of lsfe at Lanser Then came summer vacatson He noted a strange change In us when we returned We then seemed to know our way around We spoke even to Lordly Sensors' We really entered INTO school actsvstses We helped to set up a new system of student Government and saw It take hold We entered snto the athletsc program and our football team lost only one game The band and the glee club concerts were out of thss world He told of Isstensng to these concerts through a ventslator In the audstorsum roof Then he remembered that the Glee Club had performed admsrably wsth an organsza tson of no less statue than the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra He noted that we were rapsdly be comsng ready to assume our tstles as Sensors At the end of the summer of l952 we came ba k to Lamer He saw that our development was complete We were now Sophomore snubbsng Sensors the cream of the crop Thss year was one of changes and Improvements A patso was buslt for our socsal functsons A faculty coordsnator was apposnted to help us We produced splendsd athletsc teams School clubs and organszatsons sky rocketed to popularsty New ones were formed others Improved He saw that we excelled scholas tscally He saw through the ventslatson slsts sn hss locker that we knew what we were dosng We worked hard and the tsme passed qusckly Almost before we realszed st graduatson day was upon us The results ot this match have not been anwounced, but in the l95l-52 school year Sidney Lanier's team placed llth out of the 72 teams competing in the Third Army Area. The Rifle Team has just completed tiring in The T953 Third Army interscholastic Ritle Competition. The results ot this match are not available now, but last year our Rifle Team placed l2th out ot the 46 teams competing. In the i952 National ROTC interscholastic Matches our team placed 42d out ot the 82 teams competing, and were 5th out of the l8 teams competing in the Third Army Area. In addition to these Army matches our team has tired three Shoulder Matches: Two with the University ot Alabama and one with Marion Institute. The Ritle Team has also won four postal matches, two tram Bellarmine High School, Tacoma, Washington, and two trom New Hanover High School, Wilmington, North Carolina. REDELLE MOORE - End - Junior Redelle made the first string in his junior year last Season, and will be one of the finest flankmen in Alabama next year.
