'l'llll Swarm llllL 'l'll 'THEIR HI Tlllll 7 Qi f 'Z fgf- fx XX Xwix 'g,,f 4 Lanlerl We had thought we would never reach at but here we stand at last a but afraid we ll admit but oh so proud' As we entered the audl tcrlum that furst mormng we expected nd a our frnends but al we could see were unfamllxar faces from other schools We can stall hear the geers and laughs of the sensors as we rushed frantucally about the halls looknng for rooms unknown to us In as emblles we enloyed the slnglng of the Glee Club the talent dusplayed by the Dramatic Club and the music of the Mnlluon Dollar Band We flnally learned the difference between cab allo and caballero all the trucks In geometry Caesars strategy and the penalty for cuttung classes an act whnch we thought qulte smart because all the seniors dnd at December 7 more than any other Our teachers requested that we take sublects that would and us In wartume positions scrap drives began and teachers allowed us to use both sldes of our paper Before we realized It life was back to normal agaun and we became a real part of the functlonmg of that bug school When we entered Lanuer aqann In the fall of T942 we found that we were the least important thmgs IH the school We were lust some of the rn betweens who never seemed to be notsced As we were netther rats nor seniors we dudnt matter at all We recerved however enough attentron from our teachers to keep us very busy durnng that whole year We had to taste Poe Chaucer logarnthms and the queer lnttle marks IH short hand We all became enthuslastnc over the War Bond Drnve to buy geeps In memoruam to Lanlers honored dead and we went over the top In reachnng our goal Then dynamite was almost needed to empty the audltornum when Mrs Selbels orchestra gave nts annual program and Edna Claire Harper played Fuddlan the Frddle Soon came the thrnllung sprang R O T C revuew and the summer vacatuon followed September agann rolled around and we returned to school to experience the ceaseless actuvuty that surrounds a sensor at Lanner Work on our annual was begun our class held nts furst meeting to organlze our work and we all dlllgently set about doing our part for Lanrer whale we could We realized that we must get everythtng that Lanner had to offer for some of us would never go to school agaun after thrs year We must get all the educatnon we could so we could take on a responsable gob for our country Those of us who would return to school ID the fall must have a good preparatory educatuon In addntnon to our regular work we had an assembly In honor of Lueutenant Colonel Charles Davrs a former Lanner football star who had been awarded the Congresslonal Medal of Honor The football season ended and the Christmas program was presented Soon came the thrall of preoarmg for graduation As those last days drew near we rushed about trymg to fnnnsh all the last munute tasks sttll frngertng nervously those new class rlngs Now we have come to the end of our prnmary schooling some hopeful some fearful some sad and some happy The remnants of the Class of 44 those who have not yet entered the Armed Forces leave Lamer to enter a war torn world wtth the prayer that our underclassmen wall not fund themselves rn thas unfortunate sutuatnon Page '5 I f ' .
