CLASS HISTORY In September l933 a regrment of strugglrng young soldlers were statroned at Camp lamer We Confederates, lncensed by the great cause, education, resolved to leave the battleheld rtngmg wtth our glortous deeds For the hrst few weeks we were kept busy learmng the rules and regulattons of camp hfe At nmes thts life seemed strange, for the whereabouts of dlfferent headquarters were dtffncult to flnd From day to day we were drilled tn the tactxcs of geometry and the strategies of Caesar, but we Issued from the ordeal better eqtupped and better mformed for the war whtch was to come Ftnally we heard the bugle call and wtth the knowledge acquired we went to encounter the Federal troops exams Our hearts were hlled w1th dread and apprehensron when we heard the first gun hred The cannon balls and musket shots fell all around us We however, escaped vtctorlously Only a few were captured by the Federal troops and tnprxsoned for the next year The end of the year havtng come, we were grven a leave of absence for three months The next year came We returned better equtppecl, stronger, and more conhdent Life grew more strenuous every day Work began and how much relay marchmg we prrvates drd, not even the best could know We were approachmg the new expertence of bemg sent as sples mto the enemy s ranks Engh h Oh how manv reports we brought back about Chaucer' From the conllxct we drd not dlvxde the spoils but our spoxls multl phed the labor unttl we hsped tn Chaucertan lmes and ran on Chaucerlan feet thmk we came as near to betng defeated as we ever shall when we met the motley tanks of the noble Ctcero Ftnally May thtrtteth dawned and the last roll call for the year allowed us to break ranks and scatter to our homes When the bugle sounded September seventeenth, all of us were to be there On that last year a band of more WISE and understandmg mthtants were posted at the revered old encampment Wfe returned wrth new zeal and a better endeavor to serve our captaxns and to perform our duttes XVe could now master even such complicated maneuvers as that arch opponent, Trxg and that hercelooktng foe, Senror English, and another platoon as stern, Amertcan Government One dav wtll probably stand out more ln our mlnds than anv other Home Comtng Then ull our veterans returned to do homage to the flag under whtch they had fought Days tntervened durmg whtch hard fought battles were waged On that last day of May, 1936, we assembled ln the great conventlon hall to wttness the stgnxng of the peace treaty We put down our guns, but when rn return each recetved a whxte sheet of paper, the emblem of our servlces and performed dunes to the the army, we knew we possessed somethmg greater Expertence and knowledge Even though the sound of confltct has dled away and the smoke of battle has cleared the memorxes wtll always remain enshrmed tn our hearts We are sacl as we thmk of leavmg our battle torn held whrch has given us the tratmng for the bxgger hght of hfe We brd farewell to our soldxer comrades, and though dlfferent ones may enhst under various natxonal banners we wlsh success to every one ALICE NELDA 1I'VlN1FRN1AN PAGE 40 Q . Every one knows that all the games weren't won, and that the team sometimes didn't function as well as it might haveg but tenacity and perserverance which resulted in games like the Tuscaloosa conflict made the season successful. The team was light and inexperienced, lacking in almost every qualification hut fight. There was an overabunclance of this most needed quality. Credit is due to Coaches Oliver, Cain, and Acton for their encour- aging efforts.
