OUT OF THE PLJJCJES Fon THE SENIORS 0F '77 A CLASS HISTORY Four years ago, we entered the most exciting and memorable period of our lives, our high school years. We entered Jess Lanier High School in the fall of 1973. With high hopes and frightened hearts, we stumbled into our first adventure: find- ing our homerooms! Following the example of the upperclassmen, we were a very spirited class. We were overwhelmed with our first pep rally and ball game, and very quickly we rallied behind the Tigers! Our own Freshman Football and basketball teams had winning seasons, and we were very proud of our guys. At our first Homecoming, we were represented by a lawn decoration, It takes Two Hands to Handle a Tiger. Time passed swiftly, and soon we found ourselves at the beginning of our Sophomore year. We were one step ahead of the Freshmen, but still young enough to be harassed by the Juniors and Seniors. As Sophomores, we were very active in extra-curricular activities. In our Sophomore year, for example, Lanier had its first Tiger Talent show. Gradua- tion hit us harder as Sophomores, and we realized that we only had two short years until we would be at the top. Our Junior year was filled with activities and excitement! Homecom- ing was a big event, highlighted by Lanier's Homecoming Dance. We captured second place with the Junior Homecoming lawn decoration, Hole The Gophers. Another interesting, but unique, event of our Junior year was when we went on strike. In three years of high school, the Juniors had not won the spirit stick at any of the pep rallies. As a joke, we decided to show the Student Body how important we were. In the end, however, we showed our usual spirit for the Purple Tigers. The biggest event of our Junior year, was the ordering of our class rings. Soon Graduation and Class Day had arrived, and with their arrival came goodbyes to many of our cherished friends. In the midst of our sadness, came a strong happiness and excitement, because we had finally made it. We were SENIORS! ! The first event of our Senior year was during summer when our Senior portraits were made. That was when we first felt like Seniors. Pall finally arrived, and with it came the greatest graduating class Jess Lanier High School had ever seen. At the first pep rally, we saw the fulfillment of our dreams, we won the spirit stick! There were many events in our Senior year, but they were all viewed from a different angle. This year we were looking at them for the last time . How does it feel? Very jumbled . There is immense happiness, yet at the same time, deep sorrow. One thing is certain: we can never forget the memories, the friends . . . nor the examsilj that Jess Lanier High School has given us.
