4« The Jess Lanier High Band is indeed a group worthy of high praise. The half time performances presented this fall were brilliant with music and field representation. As a result of the many hours of exhausting practice and the well-executed presentations, the Lanier bond was asked to participate in the Veterans Day Parade, the Tarrant City Marching Festival, the Christmas Parade, the Governor's Inauguration Parade, and ultimately the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia. An entertaining part of the band is the group of girls who form the Color guard and Flag Corps. At district competition, this group received a superior rating. The Majorettes are an integral part of the Lanier band. The skill shown by these talented twirlers is surpassed by very few. Another important and perhaps essential part of the band is the drum major, John Russell. He also received a superior rating at district competition and won a trophy. Probably the greatest factor in the success of the Lanier band is the effort of the band director. Bill Jefferies and his assistant, Randall Harwell. Through the combined efforts of these two men and the students the Jess Lanier Band has achieved much success this school year - 1970-71.
