CLASS HISTORY 1971 Twelve years ago. in September of 1959, 293 excited six-year olds began an intricate journey, which seemed to have no ending. Today, these 293 and others who also joined this cavalcade know that the first phase of the journey is nearly finished. Now we know this journey did have a destination - graduation. After several refueling stops for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, we were ready to attempt a more distant goal. This was our step to junior high school. We all do agree that these three years wero the most fun filled of all. High school brought us into a whole new world. We met new faces from many different schools. Now we all had something in common - we were known as Scared Sophomores. And that we werel We survived all harassment, however, and at last stepped up to the title of Confident Juniors. Many of us thought we had figured out all of the teachers' weaknesses by now and felt as though we carried the entire world upon our shoulders. But even with this confidence, it was still hard to realize that we would soon be Seniors. This would be an entirely new experience for us. as it has always been for Seniors. However. Fate had a surprise for us. Not only would we be Seniors, but we would be the Seniors of a shiny new high school. Jess Lanier High School CLASS HISTORY r brought us more new classmates with whom we could share the memories of Senior rings. Senior pictures. Class Day, and finally Graduation. Yes, we have experienced many happy and sad times together. These experiences have made us stronger. Many of us have gained new friends whose friendship will last down the years to come. We now begin to understand the truth of Shakespears' words, 'To love that well which we must leave ere long. Class Historian y AVOskusvLL. Beth Sewell 709

In the clear pool of my thinking A distant drummer's calling time Beating, Onward; onward; never tarry; Keep in step, don't miss the ferry Though, death stares you in the face. Love and life are waiting for you With their warm arms all embracing. You must move forward to the call And stand back up when you would fall. So catch the boat and take the risk. Make the most of every gift. And through life's trials and life's romance. Just ask God's help to keep your stance. CLASS POEM For Time moves forward, never backward. And we must follow his example And march onward, onward, and never tarry. Keep in step - don't miss the ferry. Though Death states you in the face. Class Poet, Deborah Jones 208

CLASS PROPHESY Here we are at the dedication ceremony of the new Jess Lanier auditorium. On this May night of 1991. twenty years after the first graduating class of Jess Lanier has departed, we have returned to take part in this festive event. Before going on with the festivities let's take a look at the building itself. Ricky Morris, Bobby O'Quinn. David Mathews, and Rommie Studimire have drawn the plans for the building which are simply divine. The art work for the building was done by a corp of artists headed by Micki Hood and Nancy Johnson with Gary Wesson. David Williams. Fredrick Farness and Leotha Gaines working as their assistants. The construction of the building was done by the Randy McKinney-Steve McCrory Construction Company. Many of our old schoolmates are working for this enterprise. Some of them are: Lemuel Dial and Freddy Wilson, brickmasons; Charles Abbott, Ricky Alexander and Willie Jones, carpenters; Ricky Darden. Kenneth Matthews, and Ronnie Kirk, sheetrockers; and Robert Earl King, Royce Handley, and Leo Gaines, painters. The electrical work was done by the Larry Dozier-Ray Stinnet Electrical Company with electrical apprentices Dwight Avery and Warren Robinson. The plumbing was done by the Steve Blackerby Plumbing Company. Working for Steve's company are Henry Miller, Donny Perkins, and Donald Stephens. The interior decorating was done by Bruce Vines, Debbie Myrick, and Jeaninc Keller. Looking at our program, we notice that our guest speakers will be Jay Casey, KING of Kiwanis International, and Vicki Bondi and Margaret Stone speaking on Weight lifting. Other dignitaries listed are; Mayor Pam Cowley. Chief of Police James Augustus, Commissioner of Public Safety Benard Cook. Street Commissioner Wendell Latham, and Dog Catcher Michelle Kelley. 210
