Carnival T e Lan lois h Cctocl anru l c lrlt xc lelf cr October 20 19o1 in the gymnasium The gym was beauti full, decorated and filled with carnival spirlt Tre evening was spent by the people enjoyirr bingo the Iun house, fish po d, movie pictures dart ames electric trains, novel tie balloon shave baseball and ba netball throws B E 2 ns, and ring throws Wood and varlous refreshments were on sale for those who were in erested in eatin or de ired their ten o'clock coffee A Philco radlo was raffled off toward the latter part ul the evening Mr Hargand held the winning ticket The most important event of the evening was the coronation of the queen and the king Due to some complaints a new method of voting was adopted th1s year Irstead of the cand dates sellln tl tickets personally, boxes were used for voting Every person who bou ht a ticfet ot to cast his vote for the princess he wished by putting the s ub in her ticket box The four virls elected from the student body to run for queen were Barbara Medlock freshman Glenda Holycross, sophomore, Nadelyn Johnson soohomore, and Shirley Phillips, junior Each girl had the prlvil,ge of selecting her escort which would become king if she were elected queen The escorts were Gerald Phillips, David Barklow Garv Bruchler and Charles Clarke respectfull About every half hour the votes were announced to sive the crowd a general idea of which girl was in the lead About 10 50 a spotlight was turned on each couple while being introduced as the danced the box form of the Tennessee Waltz Madelyn Johnson was e ected queen In the procession Frances Everest carried the queen's crown and Joe Robbins carried he kiLg's crown Mr Thetford carried the gifts which he presented to the girls veryone seemed to hefe had a wonderful time and the carnival turned out to be a success.
