FRESHMEN INITIATION The Freshmen initiation was held on Friday, the fifth of Oct ober nineteen hundred fifty one The sophomores were in charge during the day and the juniors and seniors held a kangaroo court that night The freshmen were as igned certain costumes to wear to school Friday Ethel Sypher came dressed as a fat lady She was stuffed so full of newspapers it was impossible for her to get in a desk Her knees failed to bend because of the paper so she spent the day standing up Joe Sabin was wearing a diaper and played cupid for the day His ability to carry around a baby bottle is really magnificent Fred Robbins was the very image of a hula girl Pls talent for doing the hula dance was terrific It has been said that he got the drift of it from the native girls of Honolulu Jack Cox the Miss America of 1960, was wearing a gorgeous bathing suit designed with all of the curves attached His fame has risen from the fact that he has beauty, personality, and most of all other characteristics he has poise Barbara Medlock gave us a faint idea of how the cave girls are dressed She exclaims, Wwe wear nothing less than gunny sack dresses Her hair was fresrly washed uncombed and braided into fifty pigtails branded with red ribbons Dale Smith is a modern American woman He styled the wide brimmed hat with a short dress and wedged shoes If it wasn't for the frown he wore we might have mistaken him for Mrs Smith in per These were onlx a few of the odd looking characters who were initiated into high school this year Onlv upper classmen were permitted to enter the school build ing through the front door All freshmen proceeded to go around the building and go through the back door taking three steps forward and one back They were ordered to carry the upper classmen's books to and from classes and to obey their demands during the entire day At noon they were chauffeured over to the grade school and were paraded through the classrooms About 8 o'clock that night all of the freshmen showed up for the kangaroo court Again they were told to wear certain clothes The girls wore jeans and shirts with kip boots Their hair was a solid mass of fifty pigtail The boys wore skirts and blouses and one low heel shoe with one high heel shoe Each boy was blessed with thirteen pin curls in his short hair After being made up, they looked like Indian squaws on the w rpath Dick Everest was appointed judge of the court The rest of the juniors and seniors acted as a jury Each person was brought up be fore the judge individually and asked some silly question which was practically impossible to answer correctly The jury pleaded guilty at the strike of the bell and they were then sentenced to perform an act of some kind A few games were played and the evening was concluded with re freshments in the cafeteria - - .
