enior Class History The first gathering of the class of '53 was an awesome one. On that bright September morning the following eight timid souls got together in the first grades Phyllis Boardman, Gloria Porter, Sigrid Heggenes, Harlan Peters, Al Hagglund, Jack Simone, Bob Surface and Norm Thompson. The class really got rolling during the second grade with the addi- tion of Carol Jensen, Ted Thompson, .Dennis Fcnrler, Roger Gabelein, and Ed Howard, who discovered that they would be forced to attend LGS because their former school, Bay View, had gone out of business. Dick Bryant, a former Island resident tho couldn't resist the lure of good old Whidbey, returned and joined the class that same year. Iarilyn Jensen was the next to join the ranks. She entered the third grade from Chehalis. Dorotln' Day was the next person to become a member of the class. She soon discovered she preferred our fourth grade terrors to those she had met in Seattle. The girls get a break during the fifth grade when two of our more ruggedC?D males moved in. They were Gary Kohlves from Ballard and By lorland from Grants Pass, Oregon. Jean Hurt also dared to make the ferry ride and left her old domicile of Edmonds. To help lake the last year of grade school something to remember Ken Seaton left Seattle to add his smiling face to the, by then, notorious class of '53. The class was much too well mannered to cause any eanmotion during their freshman year in high school, but they hit the jackpot during their sophomore year. That year saw Jerri Armtrong leave Seattle for us, only then she spelled it Jerry. It also saw Gertie Lau desert Cleveland of Seattle, Al ,Brager leave his North Bend, Oregon, home, and Lorren Olsen and John Iaddell, fugitives from Mukilteo, succumb to the charms of IHS. The fame of the class had spread so far that llary Lou Anderson left Ballard to join us for the last three weeks of school. Jack Scheller, another lad from lulcllteo who found Everett Hgh not to his lildng, decided to keep Lorren and John company on the ferry ride. Ole didn't go for this, and fled to Everett for the last six weeks of the year, only to finally acknowledge the superiority of LB and return for his senior year. llariel Jenkins heard about the fabulous fifty-threers way up at Blaine and moved down for her senior year. The second semester of our final year saw Charles Shelley come back to graduate and Harold Dull, a foznr resident, return to become the final members of the class, swelling the graduating class to thirty members.
