On October 2nd, 1979, a disabled boat with twenty-six Vietnamese refugees was sighted in moderate seas sixty miles southwest of Subic Bay by a R-3 Grion reconnaisance aircraft. In company with the USS FRANCIS HAMMOND QPF-10675, LANG proceeded to the scene, took the refugees aboard, and provided them with food, water, cloth- ing, and medical care. They had been without pro- visions for three days, but except for fatigue and two cases of exhaustion, were in relatively good health, Our Vietnamese guests were turned over to cognizant authorities upon LANG's arrival in Subic Bay, RP. Makeshift quarters for the refugees proved to be both com- fortable Z9 practical. SA Rocky OTWELL and SA Marcel SCHUBERT carry young child to safety. A young couple and their baby.
