CLASS HISTORY Let's go back to September 13, 1954, when our class of twenty-six entered Lanesville High School in brand new fall clothes. From Lanesville Grade School came Trent Baker, Melda Brown, Peggy Brewer, Forrest Conrad, Judy Pate, John Lyskowinski, Jerry Wright, Donnie Wolfe, John Pat McGill, Robert Parks, and Jo Ann Willian. From St. John's came Doris Blank, Parvin Lambertus, Josephine Hussung, Linda Baumgart, Tommy Zollman, Kenny Schweitzer, Jerry Reinhardt, and Carl Edward Walther. Hilda Loew, Eugene Schellenberger, William Hess, Mary Jo Walker, Charlotte Homung, and Eddie Schueler came from St. Mary s. Harold Kirby entered from elsewhere. We soon settled down to work with Mrs. Hurst as our class advisor. The class officers were Jo Ann Willian, president, Jerry Reinhardt, vice-president, Trent Baker, secretary, Tommy Zollman, treasurer, and Forrest Conrad and Mary Jo Walker, reporters. The faculty for that year was CharlesBell, principal, Parvin Baumgart, commer- cial, Margaret Elam, English, Joe Pezullo, coach and social, Juanita Hurst, Home Ec. and biology, and Roald Foster, music. The highlight of the year was a party held in the gym. By the end of the year we had lost Judy Pate and Jo Ann Willian. Mary Jo Walker and Peggy Brewer were majorettes. Miraculously, we somehow escaped initiation. A new year had rolled around and we were Sophomores. Through the summer we lost Jerry Wright and Charlotte Homung, and also Harold Kirby. Fortunately, we gained Ray Schneider, Art Marking, Henry Koemer, and Roger D r o a. Mr. Foster ably served as our class advisor, and for our officers we chose Hilda Loew, president, John Lyskowin- ski, vice-president, Parvin Lambertus, secretary, Josephine Hussung, treasurer, Linda Baumgart and William Hess, reporters. The faculty remained the same -- except for two new teachers, Glenn Leger, coach and social, and Bessie Hertling, Home Ec. and biology. There was a party in the gym again that year. Some of our members were in the band when it traveled to Cannelton to compete in a contest. Many of us were in sports activities. Mary Jo Walker and Peggy Brewer were majorettes again. Before the end of school we had lost Roger Dora and Art Marking. After that busy year we began as Juniors, choosing Parvin Lambertus as president, Josephine Hussung as vice- president, Forrest Conrad as secretary, Linda Baumgart as treasurer, and Tommy Zollman and Jerry Reinhardt as reporters. We found that we had lost Peggy Brewer, John Pat McGill, Melda Brown, and Eugene Schellenberger, but hadgained Bob McNutt. Mrs. Elam, Mr. Leger, and Mr. Foster had gone and Mr. Baumgart was now our principal. ln their places were Donna Beck, John Patterson, Carolyn Hauptman and Thelma Sater. The Junior Class magazine sales set a record that year of over S700, and we also sponsored Aska, the magician, which drew an enormous crowd. Probably the most anticipated event of this year was making plans for the Junior- Senior Prom. With numerous class meetings, the able assistance of Miss Beck, our sponsor, and the many privileges granted to us by the principal, our Prom was held at the Henry Clay Hotel in Louisville on April 27. Then, too, there was a skating party at Corydon sponsored by us. That year we received our class rings, also. But the year wasn't all fun. Some of our subjects were bookkeeping, history, typing, English, Spanish, and many of us participated in the band and chorus. Jerry Reinhardt was chosen to attend Boys' State. Tommy Zoll- man received the Good Sportsmanship and Free Throw trophies awarded by the Athletic Association. Our Senior year, full of activities, has been one we shall always look back on with pride. With Tommy Zoll- man as president, Forrest Conrad as vice -president, Josephine Hussung as Secretary, Parvin Lambertus as treasurer, and Doris Blank and Henry Koemer as reporters, we were destined to become one of the finest classes ever to graduate from l.anesville High School. Hilda Loew did not join us this year. To the faculty two new teachers were added -- Mr. Alva Wesley, in place of Miss Beck, and Mr. Donald Molyneux. In athletics we had eight Seniors on the basketball team. Tommy Zollman received the Best Sportsmanship award at the County Tourney. He also received the Good Sportsmanship and Free Throw trophies awarded by the Athletic Association. Bill Lyskowinski was runner-up for the Most Valuable Player Award and was elected a mem- ber of the All County team. Linda Baumgart was our candidate for Basketball Queen, and represented our class in the D.A.R. Contest. Mary Jo Walker and Josephine Hussung represented our class as cheerleaders, and were al- ways ready to lead our team to victory. ln our school publication, the L.H.S. Observer, Parvin Lambertus was editor-in-chief. Much time was spent in the early part of the year selling advertisements for our yearbook, the Eaglettte. Editor-in-chief for the yearbook was Parvin Lambertus and Miss Sater was the yearbook advisor. Each member played his important part in making the yearbook. That year, too, we presented our class play -- Good Gracious, Grandma. Mr. Wesley was our director, and the play was given on April 12. On April 17 the Juniors entertained us with a Banquet-Prom at the V.F.W. Hall in New Albany. April 23 found us taking a trip on a train to Cincinnati to see the Cinerama show, Search for Paradise. In the following days we took the regular trip to Corydon to visit the business places, and points of in- terest in Louisville. Our Class Night program, Seniorama, was presented on Monday, May 5. Commencement exercises were held on May 7 at 8:00 p.m. with Dr. Merrill B. McFa1l, Bloomington, as our speaker. Valedictorian was Parvin Lambertus, Robert Parks was Salutatorian, and Jerry Reinhardt was Historian. The history of our class has been full of so many interesting activities that it has been hard to select the most important. We've tried to give you a cross section of the outstanding events. 7 TRENT BAKER Basketball 1-2-3 -4 Baseball l-4 Track 3-4 Band 1-2 Sophomore Play 2 Class Secretary 1 Pep Club 1-2-3-4 --Secretary 4 Newspaper 3-4 Annual 4 Senior Play 4 LINDA BAUMGART Band 1-2-3 Sophomore Play 2 Chorus 1 Pep Club 1-2-3 Class Treasurer 3 --Reporter 2 Newspaper 3-4 Annual Co-Editor 4 D.A.R. I, Linda Baumgart, will to Miss Sater an air freshener, so that next year when she needs one so badly, she will have one. I, Doris Blank, will to Barbara Eisert my ability to puff and draw and make smoke rings. I, Jerry Reinhardt, will to Dick Garvey my ability to loiter in the office without being questioned. I, Bob Parks, will to Mr. Patterson my catchers mitt. May he use it in honest judgment and deep thinking fwhich is hardly possiblej, when picking the next Lanesville catcher. May this catcher use it with the most confidence and tnist which Mr. Patterson bestowed on me. I, Josephine Hussung, will to Miss Sater a box of Cherrios so she won't have to use so many pencils giving everybody zeros. I, Bob McNutt, will to Billy Brock my ability to keep the teacher liking me so well and still be so mean. I, Henry Koemer, being of sound mind and body, will to Richard Garvey my pennit to drive to school, which served me so faithfully during my Senior year. I, Kenny Schweitzer, will to Donnie Ullrich my ability to get out of school with no suspicion as to my whereabouts. I, Carl Walther, leave, my ability to wander around the halls, never attend class, and to keep the bench warm .at basketball games to Donnie Ullrich. I, Mary Jo Walker, will to Mr. Patterson a book on how to give assignments so he won't try to finish the entire book in the last two weeks of school. I, Parvin Lambertus, will to Connie Craig and her paper staff the Senior Class's ability to publish the school paper while the editor sleeps or roams around. I, Raymond Schneider, will to Charles Parks my ability to pass on reading my part in our play, so that he can do the same next year in their play. I, Bill Lyskowinski, will my ability to work and understand physics, and my vast knowledge in all subjects to Lawrence Fluhr. I, Donnie Wolfe, will to Elinor Lambertus and Billy Sciefers my ability to sneak out of class and into the study hall to meet my date. We, Tommy Zollman, Forrest Conrad, and Trent Baker, will our quick wits, fast rebounding, speed, and maneuverability of the ball, and best of all, our natural inclination to be the best players of 1957- 58 to the next year's ball team. 50 CLASS PCEM When the books close, and the last bell rings, And carefree days are lost to mundane things, When nostalgia strikes, and your memory wanes, And you remember the faces, but not the names - Pick up your yearbook and leaf it through And remember the days so dear to you.
