HISTORY THE SENIOR CLASS LANERI HIGH SCHOOL 1959 Custom decrees that a senior class present a history of its activities during its high school years. In d ' the stor of a journey in verse form: honor of the illustrious class of '59, I have compose an epic, y ln the year of Our Lord, 1955 We came to Laneri - Who would have dreamed that 4 years could fly And that we stand now before you, To bid you good-bye. Sixty-four kids, from good old Fort Worth, Began to study and learn Algebra, Latin, English, and Science Only four of the credits we'd soon Have to earn. Our year was fresh with new faces, our new friends, and all the new places: The gym with a dance, the park with a game, We wanted Laneri to win and gain a good name So we could be proud of those in our High school crowd. As the Sophomore Class of '56 ln Laneri routines we were firmly fixed, And as we progressed through this, our second year, We learned that for us to live without fear And for us to win our short Life's race, We must learn to live with the Church and use the Life of Christ's saving Grace. Poor Caesar in Gaul was maimed as before, And in History we confused the Rose and Hundred Years' War. Then, as Juniors, we gained the upperclassmen's Estate, With planning for Prom and dances at eight. In English we worked as our Vocabulary was enlarged, And in chemistry, an electron was always negatively charged, As citizens we studied the history of our State, What made them so grand--or maybe why not so Great. An lsosceles triangle, we were taught, Had two base angles equal, And then we learned that af -4- bf : ci, the world-famous sequel. The great day, the receiving of rings Made us all feel proud as Louis the King. We then found to our surprise, more and more, that it still remained difficult to make a high score On those two hour tests. Summer flew, And before we knew, our last year was now! We had attained that goal of our freshman days, But how it seemed to have changed in so lVlany ways: We found ourselves still human, too And we didn't know all we thought we knew. Our minds were filled with the heady drink, fthe mark of an educated many The ability to reason and to plan and think. We studied our Physics, our Trig and Religion, And we learned that what we knew Was but a smidgeon of the store house of truth To which man holds the key: His mind and his soul with God toward eternity. IV And thus we sum up a few years of our lives, We go on to our work, in the fields that it lies, But before we go - we all wish to say Thanks to you, our parents, teachers, and Friends, Our life now begins as one segment ends. MAX GILLASPY
