At Laneri this aim is accomplished by one method in four fields. To EXPAND OUR INTELLECTUAL LIFE, our teachers guide us to knowledge and we study with our class- mates. To EXPAND OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE, we follow the Sodality program to spiritual perfection and we par- ticipate in religious services. To EXPAND OUR PHYSICAL LIFE we play our sports and participate in Physical Education. To EXPAND OUR SOCIAL LIFE we work in our or- ganizations to better Laneri and we have fun at our dances, pep-rallies, and other student activities. In this book we will show how Laneri fulfills its duty by a four-fold expansion of its students' lives. We have also tried to make permanent record of 1959 for the memorable year that it was. This year, this distinction is given by way of thanks to some one for assistance ren- dered in studies and advice. Perhaps more than any other class, this senior class has felt the influence of Father James Reilly. Nlost of us met him in World History during our sophomore year at Laneri. Many of us have worked with him in Sodality and we have all come to a fuller knowledge of our Roman Catholicism in his Senior Religion course. During the three years Father Reilly has been at Laneri he has been the special friend and advo- cate of this, the senior class. As individuals and as a class, we have benefited from him as a teach- er and as a friend. We dedicate this, The Benedictus of 1959, to Father James J. Reilly in appreciation and public acknowledgment of his work at Laneri. FATHER JAMES J. Diamond Hill had scoring plays of 10, 15, and 3 yards. Their extra points came on one pass and one kick. La- neri was plagued by fumbles and intercepted passes. Al- though the Micks couldn't get a scoring drive started, their de- fensive play kept the game in- teresting. A Laneri player is swamped under, but not before he makes a first down. The Blue and Gold offense machine swings into action. LANERI 8 AZLE 0 Laneri scored its first victory of the football season over Azle on a rain soaked touchdown in the third period on an eight-yard lunge by halfback Frank Gordoa. The Micks gave the Greyhounds an unpredictedly dang- erous challenge throughout the hard fought game. Highlights of the game were the touchdown runs of Tom Marrs and Frank Gordoa. Marrs receiving passes from Allan Keyer ran two of them, 45 and 50 yards for six-pointers. Gordoa's score was an intercepted pass return of 95 yards. Our last tally came in the last quarter by a long heave from Allan Keyer and a marvelous catch by end Sam Partlow. Both attempts for extra points failed. In d ' the stor of a journey in verse form: honor of the illustrious class of '59, I have compose an epic, y ln the year of Our Lord, 1955 We came to Laneri - Who would have dreamed that 4 years could fly And that we stand now before you, To bid you good-bye. Sixty-four kids, from good old Fort Worth, Began to study and learn Algebra, Latin, English, and Science Only four of the credits we'd soon Have to earn. Our year was fresh with new faces, our new friends, and all the new places: The gym with a dance, the park with a game, We wanted Laneri to win and gain a good name So we could be proud of those in our High school crowd. As the Sophomore Class of '56 ln Laneri routines we were firmly fixed, And as we progressed through this, our second year, We learned that for us to live without fear And for us to win our short Life's race, We must learn to live with the Church and use the Life of Christ's saving Grace. Poor Caesar in Gaul was maimed as before, And in History we confused the Rose and Hundred Years' War. Then, as Juniors, we gained the upperclassmen's Estate, With planning for Prom and dances at eight. In English we worked as our Vocabulary was enlarged, And in chemistry, an electron was always negatively charged, As citizens we studied the history of our State, What made them so grand--or maybe why not so Great. An lsosceles triangle, we were taught, Had two base angles equal, And then we learned that af -4- bf : ci, the world-famous sequel. The great day, the receiving of rings Made us all feel proud as Louis the King. We then found to our surprise, more and more, that it still remained difficult to make a high score On those two hour tests. Summer flew, And before we knew, our last year was now! We had attained that goal of our freshman days, But how it seemed to have changed in so lVlany ways: We found ourselves still human, too And we didn't know all we thought we knew. Our minds were filled with the heady drink, fthe mark of an educated many The ability to reason and to plan and think. We studied our Physics, our Trig and Religion, And we learned that what we knew Was but a smidgeon of the store house of truth To which man holds the key: His mind and his soul with God toward eternity. IV And thus we sum up a few years of our lives, We go on to our work, in the fields that it lies, But before we go - we all wish to say Thanks to you, our parents, teachers, and Friends, Our life now begins as one segment ends.
