Sel- ected students from the divisions meet the eighth period Thursdays to discuss and vote on bills which will improve the school. The Council's purpose is to ill foster school spirit, C23 solve welfare problems, and l3l promote self-government. The organization is in charge of Lane's five thousand dollar budget. The Council decides how much money will be appropriated to various school activities such as the Lane Daily, Tech Prep, garden, traffic engineers, clinic, and other organizations, The regular assemblies to which the students are admitted free of charge, the color filming of our school, and the publicity Lane receives in the various neighborhood newspapers are all projects of the Council. As long as there is a Council, the student will be given the opportunity to suggest ways to improve the school, and he will be given representation in the body of Lane Tech. Student ctw and incance The basic problems of justice prevail in the Lane Student Court, The guilt or innocence of the defendant must be determined by what actually happened, and it follows that the first task of this court or any court is to determine the facts about the crime. The second, and almost equally important task is that of fixing an appropriate remedy for the misbehavior. Through conscientious and de- termined effort, the courts of the student government bring justice to the guilty. When one stops to compare the budget of the government with that of the Lane Tech students, one finds that the Lane budget is always balanced, never in debt, but yet being used to what the Student Council believes to be full advantage. The organ in the auditor- ium, the Lane Daily we read everyday, the Tech Prep we receive, the important chari- ties, and the numerous other projects of the Student Council use the money of the student budget to great advantage. 28 STUDENT BUDGET COMMITTEE Top Row.
