More detailed and specialized study in optics, some phases of electricity, and electronics are included in the second semester's work. Lane, along with the many large technical institutions throughout the country, offers a social science program to insure a well-rounded education to its students. The world history course presents a foundation for building a liberal outlook and concrete understanding of foreign ideals. United States history, as taught at Lane, illustrates the constant endeavors to preserve freedom and self-expression. Patriotic interest is aroused as as the American story is told, from the Landing of the Pilgrims to the Korean War. The civics courses mold and develop the citizens of tomorrow by teaching the regulations Cand the principles behind them? that comprise our code of living. The language courses teach a new culture as well as a new tongue.
