Plastics are used almost everywhere, it is difficult to find any machinery which isn't constructed partly of plastics. Guided by Mr. Brinkman's expert instruction, the students learn to make letter openers, pen and napkin holders, lamps, and many other useful items, They design, cut, file, buff, and then bend each item, At the end of the semester a contest is held, and each student exhibits a product which he chose to make. l TURNING A CYLINDER-Leskie's labor. The buzzing of the lathes blends with the high, raucous scream of metal being torn by harder metal, as raw material is shaped to precision accuracy. The boys use micrometers to find out if their project is within the one-thousandth inch tolerance. They learn many basic operations in machine shop, such as threading, tapering, and finishing raw material. Among the more advanced jobs are a surface gauge ancl an all- purpose tool holder. DR.
