This ideal we have represented with a star, to be seen on the cover and throughout the annual. In ke eping with our theme, this year's CHAIN pictures life at Lane primarily in its s oc ial pattern. This approach we find focused in the word community. Lane is a community of congenial students and teachers. Toalarge extent responsibility for life here is assumed by the students. Ideals of sportsmanship and honor are dear to the hearts of Lanites. And so the r e spe ct of self and the tolerance of others found here create a cordial atmosphere in which common goals may be pursued with profit and pleasure. We us e the word community in an external sense too. Lanites have developed s tr ong ties with their Charlottesville neighbors, as well as with s ome fr om mor e distant places. Lane students have helped Charlottesville groups in such activities as selling Christmas trees and colle cting money in the T. B. drive. Our Business and Distributive Education Departments have placed many students in jobs with local me r c ha nt s . Our cheerleaders and student body have been good hosts and good guests at athletic contests involving Lane teams. And our whole s tudent body has had its generosity rewarded by having in its midst Sweden's teen-age ambassador, Anita Westman. This link of your CHAIN attempts to record for you the rich , hectic, yet friendly life at Lane High School. Happy looking I 4 Sorry, this page is unavailable. We are helping the Sr. Hi-Y with its cloth e s drive. A lot of work goes into this because the clothes are picked up at many homes as well as being brought to Lane by the students. Also we are going to run the concession stands down on the athletic field during track and baseball seasons. We hope that many pe ople are going to look at our bulletin board and take notice of our messages and realize what we are trying to do. The re is also the matter of stage effects. Lights have to be run, curtains opened and closed at the right time, makeup applied, scenery built and painted, and costumes made, fitted, refitted, and readjusted. T w enty - one points a r e necessary for ad- mittance into the club. These may be earned by working on one of the many projects of the club.
