The main attendance boosters were the night meetings and occasional supper meetings. The club contributed to the Santa Claus Fund, the World Service Fund of the YMCA, and gave a bobby-sox danc e with the Boys' Sr. club. They have done this by having a lecture or experiment given to the rn at each of their meetings by either a student or a citizen of the community. Miss Peggo, who works a great deal with hamsters, gave the members ideas for their project, which centered around experiments with hamsters. They plan to enter this project, plus other individual projects, in the University of Virginia Science Open House held in the spring. The club also sponsored their first bobby-sox dance, which was very successful. They plan to use the profits from the dance for a trip to a hatchery or some other place of interest to all the members. Che Humblebee February is usually considereda pretty dull month, but not around Lane Qwe hopel because that's when the first issue of the BUMBLEBEE makes its appearance. For months staff members have rushed around school begging and cajoling in order to get the material in on time for publication. Shop owne r s can relax at last, ffor a few months anyway, knowing that they won't have to cope with a group of very determined Lane stud'ents out hunting ads for the BUMBLEBEE. Under the efficient leadership of Barbara Cassady and Katherine Purcell, the co-editors, and Mrs. Meade, sponsor, the BUMBLEBEE staff works hard to get out a magazine filled with stories, essays, and poems for the students' enjoyment twice each year. With the help of the Council these groups were able to work together with more co -operation and in closer harmony than in the past. This years' Councilconsistedof representatives from nineteen Lane clubs and organi- zations. Its sponsor is Mr. Harry S. Martin. In Februarythe Council entertained the president, vice-president, and sponsor of each organization, and the elected representative on the Council at a banquet. Another project was a bobby-sox dance which was given in the spring. Also under the sponsorship of the Council were the weekly chapel services held each Monday morning before school. It has been the privilege of the club to have Miss Jean Gronemeyer, and Mr. Harry Jordan as sponsors and very capable directors. This was most evident in the production of Brandon Thomas' Charley's Aunt. Everyone who saw it Qand if you didn't you should havei will remember the hilarious situations in which the characters found themselves. This year the club really vied with professional productions in the costumes, sets, and dialogue. The Players' Club is one of Lane's oldest clubs, and it can easily be under- stood why. Getting ads, taking pictures, getting supplies fthis school does not stock rubber bandsl, seeing club sponsors, and a s king questions of Mike Maupin, the '55 editor, are a few of the jobs which keep the CHAIN Staff members busy. The staff tries to represent the entire school in the annual and not favor any one class, therefore we have staff members from each of the five classes. This year the members have incorporated a new editorship plan. Under this plan we have an editor-in-chief, assistant editor, and also an editor for each class. lnthis way jobs are not heaped on one person only, but are distributed equally among the staff members. With all fifteen staff members co-operating, worrying, and working together with the very capable CHAIN sponsor, Mr. J. L. Sauder, the members are able to bring to the stu- dents a complete picture of life at Lane.
