anim: Cfaaa Jlfafozy For four long years we have waited patiently for this wonderful year when we could take our places at Lane as high and mighty Seniors. When we entered Lane in 1945, we elected Junior Harvey as our president. He led us through a very successful year in which we participated in more activities than most eighth grade classes usually did. The year we spent as greenhorns passed by quickly, and before we knew it we were Freshmen and a little more grown-up. This year Jessie Ewell served us excellently as our class president. A number of members of the Freshman Class took part in the operetta The Bells of Capistrano. Our class seemed to be musically inclined' as we had a large representation in both the choir and the band. Starting with our Sophomore year, we began to have many promising athletes and cheerleaders. J. C. Craft was our class president, and practically all the clubs at Lane contained some members of our class. Our dance, The Hatchet Swing, went over very successfully, and the assembly given by the Sophomore Class was one of the best given at Lane. Also this busy class sponsored a Tall Tale Contest, and a picnic held at Dickie Britton's home, Richlands. J. C. Craft was carried over from our Sophomore year to serve once again as presi- dent of our Junior Class. We ordered our Senior rings early so we would be able to wear them through the senior year. During this year, perhaps the most spectacular dance ever presented at Lane was given-The Junior-Senior Prom. The decorations consisted of archways brightly covered with spring fiowers, and huge bags of balloons hung at oppo- site ends of the gym. Door prizes, donated by various stores in town, were presented at intermission. The Seniors seemed to appreciate our efforts in making this dance such a success as much as we enjoyed giving the dance in their honor. ' But I think we will all agree that this, our final yearat high school, has been the finest of them all. To lead us through the year have been president, Billy Bolton, vice- president, Gary Kirkseyg secretary, Margaret Saunders, and treasurer, Pat Hawkins. This Senior Class of 1949 has attempted something no other Senior Class has ever at- tempted, and that was a trip to New York City. I don't believe we will ever forget thdse Weekly rummage and pastry sales, the dances, bridge parties, and above all, the hilarious basketball game between the male members of the faculty and the boys of the Senior Class. Everyone worked hard to make the trip one of the most wonderful mem- ories in our high school career. ' Now as We fondly wave good-bye to the place that holds some of our most cher- ished memories-Lane High School, We Want to thank our teachers whose leadership and guidance have made these past five years of learning a pleasure. twelve - ' CHAIN
