. : Z X ' 1 SHIRLEY W HUTCHERSON IHA 1, 2, Class Reporter 2, H1 Lander Staff 4, Bagpipe Staff 4 KING TEEN Donnie Carruth S Donnie Carruth was chosen from the Senior Class as King Teen and has a e n I0 r C I a S S chance to wln a scholarship at Wof ford College He was chosen for H I S t O r Y sjholarshlp, leadership, and person ity ln 1944 the present Senior Class was organized at the Landrum Elementary School with eleven of the present Seniors and Mrs Broome as teacher Terry Staggs entered the class from Keystone Heights Florida and Dorothy JLISLICL entered in the second grade from Wellford South Carolina, with Miss Turpin as teacher Mrs Christopher was our teacher in the third grade Jeanette Solesbee Wofford entered the class in the fourth grade from Tryon and also, Shirley Wyatt Hutcherson from North Pacolet We had for our teacher, Miss Blackwell Bobby Morton entered the class in Miss Bowl1ng's fifth grade from Randleman, North Carolina. In the sixth grade with Miss Foster as teacher, Buddy Fagan entered from Inman Our class continued to grow by the addition of Eddie Hardin from Augusta, Georgia, and L T McCall from Ros man, North Carolma For a change, we were graced with the appearance of a male teacher, Mr Wilson In the eighth grade Inez jackson entered from Oak Grove We continued with Mr Wilson In the ninth grade we realized that we had reached that ultimate goal H1gh School Billy Wayne Stewart entered entire School In the tenth grade a steady stream of pupils were added V1rg1n1a Pagt Good from Hendersonville, Larry Edwards and joe West from Campobello, and Shelva MCSWGIH from Greencreek, North Carolina W1th Mrs Snelgrove as our teacher seven members were 1n1t1ated into the Beta Club Peggy Hedr1ck was chosen Harvest ue en With the consolidation of schools the class really boomed with Shirley Ann Smith, Lura Hamr1ck, Betty jean Ross Chris Bowling Bishop, jean Horton, and Nancy Davis from Campobello, Kenneth Norman from jacksonville, Florida, and Rosie Prince from New Prospect with Mrs jackson as sponsor The junior and Senior Banquet was held at the New O P Earle Grammar School the theme be1ng Candle Llghtmg Time One of our students, Billy Wayne Stewart, was honored w1th a trip to the National FFA Convention at Kansas City, Missouri Betty jo DIXOH was chosen as Harvest Queen At last we have reached that great ambltion Seniors' We were honored to have Sammy Doar from Columbia and Jimmie Lawrence from Spartanburg enter our class With Mr Byrd as our sponsor we started our varied activities for the year Those holding high positions were President of the Seruor Class, Bobby Morton, Editor of Bigpipe, Nancy Davis, Editor of H1 Lander, jackie Fisher, and President of Beta Club and Miss H1 Miss, Shelva McSwa1n A new club was formed, the D E Club w1th Sammy Doar as Pres1dent This year Terry Staggs, State FFA Vice Presi dent, was sent to the National FFA Convention at Kansas City, Missouri Also honored was Larry Edwards with a free trip to Clucago, Illmois, for the 4 H Club Congress Several members participated in the Senior Play and we were proud to note that eight members of the Beta Club were Seniors Jimmie Lawrence was chosen Harvest Queen and we were also proud to note that for the past four consecutive years the Harvest Queen has come from this class Nancy Davis was chosen as D A R Good C1t1zen from the Seruor Class 8 . , H, 1 . f' .D ,f l , ' - 4 V17 . .
