N --Sl11llc1'.s'pf'r11'r 1 - . . . l'rom out of the steaming jungle that is the Sixth Form Lounge comes Tiger Tom Edge. Crowling profusely. Tom with his long stringy mane fills the hearts of his antagonists with panic. To his fellow scholars. Tom presents a more docile mien. The one outstanding char- acteristic of Tom is that he respects silence. To Tom silence is an institution holding the key to Peace in this harried world: and he tries. in his quiet way. to convert his companions. Yes. Tom is a godsend to all masters bothered by classroom noise and erudite nonsense. Hiro- hito is never bothered with questions, foolish or otherwise, from Tours corner. His attempts to prove that silence is golden is very much in evidence on the athletic field. During a foot- ball game Tom goes about his difficult job of line-backer with a grim determination and reserve that would shame one Mr. XVilliam Triplett on the trail of a malefactor. In soccer. T exhibits a ferocity and go-get-'emu atti- tude unusual for that fun loving aggregation. Sneaking up from nowhere, he hooks one foot in front of an opponents and claws the ball away. Tom plans to carry his crusade to the new Air Force Academy. He has decided that. although peace is the desired element, a few atomic bombs may be necessary to persuade the obstinate of its value. So. we leave Tiger Tom with the hope that in the Air Force Academy. at least. he may break the sound barrier. 28
