VVe all reflect that at which we look and those with whom we associate, if we do it long enough. The home. which should be symbolic of everything that is good and noble in life. will bring forth high ideals. sympathetic understanding. and deep affection and appreciation for our parents and fellow associates. There are those across. the way who look at our lives. In some of us they see love and kindness. in some only successful business operators: in others social leaders: in others. one who knows. how to have a good time. What do your friends see ln you? What do you reiiect? lf our dreams of a better world are to be realized and the day hastened when men shall know war no more, in some way our generation, too. must catch a hint of eternity. We must look to sources of strength higher than ourselves. We must cultivate a sense of God's presence and under the inspiration of fellowship with Him learn to do His will. Hulnan capacities are great but not great enough, nor good enough without God. Therefore the Church is the one institution on earth whose main purpose is to bring God and man together. Through Wor- ship. Bible Study. Christian fellowship. Helpful service, we can tlnd God. 'l'he school has a great task to perform to the children from all walks of life. We are to help the children find their place and enrich their lives and make life worthwhile. We hope that the instructors ln the Landis School have contributed by these special efforts of sympathetic cooperation and loyal devo- tlon to the many tasks that are ours to perform. Toll, I repeat-toil either of the brain. or of the heart. or of the hand. is the only true manhood. the only true nobility. May I ask again. what do you reflect? H. A. MCCREARY, Principal 5 L u SUPERIIWTEIWDEHTS FHESSHGE America is great! Why is America great? America is great because of her three great Democratic Institutions. 'l'he home. the school. and the church. Truly the home is the fountain of our civilization. From it springs the life of our present and future generations. Upon the parents of our homes rest the responsibility of giving early training to the children of that home. If this training is neg- lected. the tlrst great link in the chain which makes America great is weakened. The school is the next great link in the chain. To our fore- fathers we owe a great debt of gratitude for the establishment of our public school system which we have today. Upon the shoulders of our classroom teachers rest the responsibility of training the youth of our land. for its citizens of tomorrow. lf America is to continue to be great. it will depend largely upon the sound thinking and efhciency of our classroom teachers. The church is the third link in our chain. The decay and fall of all nations and empires can be traced to the decay and fall of the church. Man. ln order to advance. must continue to trust in God and the church. No nation will become greater than its homes, its schools, and its churches. Let us do our part to keep America great. T. F. DEDICHTIDH It is very doubtful if anyone has contributed more to the Spiritual development of the people of Rowan County for the past fifty years than has the late Rev. C. P. Fisher, Db. Rev. Fisher spent more than forty years of his ministerial service here in our county. The last fifteen being spent as our next door neighbor. Rev. Fisher's love for school children and his en- couraging words spoken to the teachers as they ar- rived and returned from their day's work in the class- room will never be forgotten. Greater love hath no man than this, that he give his life for God's Kingdom. Truly it can be said of Rev. Fisher that he gave his life for the spiritual development of the boys and girls of Rowan County. In appreciation for this great service rendered by Rev. Fisher, we, the class of 1946, dedicate this year- book.
