ELHE5 HI E TUFQY of V354 Nelve years ago the senior class of 'Sh trotted into the first grade room happy at the thought of finally being in school. A Out of the seventeen that started in 'h2 only ten re- mained with us till now. They are Joyce Cross, Jim Wiley, Shirley Sharp, Neil Zook, Hoene Kellam, Jim Hacker, Martha Weaver, Gene Minton, Suzanne Klepser, and Ruthena Scott. After struggling through the first six grades we finally reached the turning point in our school career, junior high, and that meant being up stairs. Starting in our freshman year with nineteen members, we elected as our officers, James Hacker-President, Joyce E boss-Vece president, Martha Weaver-Secretary, and , Gene Minton-Treasurer with Dale Stroud as our sponsor. letting bolder we launched into our sophomore year, and JV elected as our officers, Gene Minton-President, Neil Zook-Vice-president, Joyce Cross-Secretary, Roene . Kellam-Treasurer, and Warren Freck as our sponsor. f u in Q Q luring that year we sponsored a scrap drive, helped the A 4 lat A 'r Iuniors with a fish fry, and enjoyed a party of--CHot :FIN Jogs and a movie later.J I' 'fNl':f?':' In our junior year we really worked! We were after enough money to take our trip with the seniors that year. We sold magazines and Christmas cards, sponsored a year book, sold concessions at ball games, and presented a play fTom Sawyerl. we elected as our officers, Gene Minton-President, Joe Stanley-Vice president, Suzanne IQ.epser-Secretary, and Martha f Weaver-Treasurer with Claude Keller Jr. as our sponsor. 5' With the feeling of being big-wheels we then started ' in our senior year. CLASS PROPHECY With school days 12 years behind us and a lon vacation due, we decided on a round the world trip. On January 20, 1927, we started out from Baer Field in our private plane nThe Lancer.u As we were flying along we stopped at the U.S.Army headquarters in North Africa and there we saw Reba Haley old government and behold who the elementary in Australia, grades. She had who was a private secretary of Major Groves. Seeing an school near the post we stopped to investigate and lo would we find--none other than Shirley Sharp teaching 19 pupils in the class. While stopping we ran into Rena Harris, who was an advertising agent for the circus, so we had a chat with her. She was patiently waiting for Captain Proffett to be discharged from the army. Our next visit was in the Hawaiian Islands. Leaving the field--we met no other but Jim Hacker and Susie Klepser, who had started out for Parhg lost their way and ended up in Hawaii. Now what are they going to see. we accompanied them to see the Hawaiian entertainment and who do they find there, but Bob Manning. He was so interested in the girls that he didn't even notice his old classmates, Martha Weaver, managing the en- tertainment. we heard by the grapevine, that Lahr's Restaurant was just around the corner, and we thought it might be the one we knew, so we stopped and sure enough it was, none other than Larry Lahr. When we sat down to order, who should we see, Shirley Jeffrey, waitress. While we were eating our dinner a man by the name Smith came in with his or- chestra and they played a few songs, much to our surprize it was Larry Smith who graduated from Lancaster School in Sh. From there we went to the airport to board our uLancern and another T. W.A. Transport had just landed and who should be the pilot but Joe Stanley and Connie Hiatt, the stewardess. We then flew to Los Angles and as we drove to our hotel, we noticed that Roene Kellam was appear- ing in a broadway hit,nTo Ugly to Look At,u co-starring Neil Zook. Fin- ally we arrived at the hotel and found that Jim Wiley was the manager. The next morning we left for New York. Landing at La Guardia Field, we took a taxi to our hotel and discovered that the cab-driver was Bill Whitacre. We had a nice visit with him, and he told us he had married Ruthena Scott and that they had ped and chatted a bit with her, After resting in out hotel room Sth Avenue we found a very nice and inside we were surprised to built a nice home close by so we stop- too. awhile, we decided to go shoppingv0n store called nLa Cross Style Shoppeu find that La Cross, the famous designer of fashionable clothes,wasnoonebut Joyce Cross from Lancaster. We were also pleased and surprised to find that Devon Hedrick was happily employed there as one of La Cross' glamourous models. The next day we went to Coney Island and the first person to greet us there was Phil Stouder, who told us he owned all the concessions at that place and was doing quite well financially. We talked about old times at Lancaster School and we told Phil of the ones of his classmates that we had seen, which made us curious to find the remaining ones. Investigation showed that Mary Reust and Alfred were running a success- ful drug store in Cleveland, Ohio and also raising a family of four children. Ruth Michaelson had become a nurse and was the Superintendent of Nurses at Mercy Hospital in Detroit. While visiting her found that Verda Patten and Bob the automobile business. It was nice to know as we brought to a close that one of our old classmates, Gene Minton, was large farm in Lancaster Townshipand teaching his three sons bashetball for the team of 1977. there we and were in our journey farming a to play were living in Detroit also
