Each passing year adds more To their total vhlue, Because teachers do not build castles In the air But in the lives and minds Of students. .i ,. I on giLIE!??!.l 1LL XVhen a teacher goes beyond Pounding cold, hard facts Into a stuclent's mind, Wfhen a teacher seeks to build more than Castles of knowledge there- When he strives to build friendships . . . Some people say A teacher should remain Cool and objective. At L.M.S. that is impossible. Facuffg A student doesn't stop at merely Sorting out his teachers By their classroom techniques And what type of tests they give He sees more than the teacher image He sees a personality. C., was sunny and crisp the day we haunted its buildings and streets. Our guide was a wonder- ful snowy-haired man who was amazed at the vast quan- tities of turtlenecks in our midst. There are many little things we'll remember about this trip. Like missing Senator Dirksen by one corner. Like hearing' Dave Kraybill ask every other White House guard, Are you the President? Like seeing in one White House room an obscure painting dedicated to the memory of john Fitzgerald Kennedy. Like watching Advisor Elton G. Moshier propped against a tree near the Washington Monument, contentedly eating from his sack of sand- wiches and bananas. Like meeting a capitol guard who claimed he was born and raised in Lancaster County. Like seeing the inaugural platform in its infant stage. Then in the evening our buses rolled up in the gather- ing darkness to the base of the Jefferson Memorial, made brilliantly resplendent by a multitude of searching lights. There, in statue-like stillness, Thomas jefferson sits and watches the screaming jets that fly low and flash reflec- tions in the pool that also mirrors the Washington Monument. On the massive walls behind and around this great man, are the words that spell the independence of our land, words that are ageless and immortal against the motion of time. For the dorm student there is time set aside for personal worship twice a day, and a half-hour prayer circle in the evening. For both the dorm and the day student there is a twenty minute chapel period before classes begin. On Tuesday there are several prayer groups that meet in the girls' dorm. And in the fall, revivals are held. i But all this organized worship becomes worthless unless there is within each of us unplanned times of adoration to God. Then can we be sure that we wear no maskg that our love For God is real. l k,- F Norman Kolb, emfzgelirt N- 4, SOCRATARIANS OFFICERS: Rhoda Kennel, Advisorg Glenn Hertzler, Chaplaing Dale I-Iertzler, Vice Presi dentg Merle Erb, Secretaryg Rosanne Hollinger, President l l U n HERCULEAN OFFICERS: James Mast, Chaplaing Daniel Stahl, Presidentg Rose Stoltzfus, Secretaryg Philip Martin, Vice President 121.-..- 1 V - . ..- ..1, Verna Mohler, Advisorg John That makes the fiftieth Herc The L.M.S. dorm child ' Is one of two- Herc.
