Route 4, Lancaster, Pa. Dean, Cliemistiy, Physics, German, First Aid, Senior Adviser Dear Seniors of 1955: It is always a little hard to say what one feels should be said to a graduating class. It will not do to say, We are glad you are leav- ingfy That would not say it all and would call for some explanation. Neither could we say, K'VVe wish you would stay another year. In school staying on another year has unpleas- ant implications. But we are glad that you have successfully completed your four years of work so that it is possible for you to make plans for other important tasks in your life. We believe that you are coming to the end of your fourth year of high school with a de- gree of satisfaction, You feel that you have done your work well, you are eager to try something else. Most of you have heard the call to service and want to answer it. We wish for you the best that life has to offer in time and eternity. samwmv-im-sfzefwwcaimw i Y if -- VVEAVER, AMos W. Route 1, Ronks, Pa. P1'z'ncz'pal, Bible Dear Brothers and Sistersin the Lord: Wie rejoice with you in having reached your goal of a high school education, a privilege missed by many. The further advantage of a Christian education is a trust from God who will require an accounting of it. Your use of this opportunity thus far is but the beginning of this accounting which will be completed when the Master calls you ho-me. You will often recall the pleasure of school days. I hope there will be happiness ahead for you. However, life is not to be measured so much by personal happiness as by the hap- piness we can bring to others in a way that honors our Lord who will add, then, an over- flowing bounty of His grace to us. Like a wealthy investor, you will carefully look about you for opportunities in consecrat- ed Christian service, where your capital assets of heritage, talents, and zeal may be invested. Many voices will call and glittering promises may be offered. You need to weigh them by God's voice within. The Hesh hears the call of the world, but the spirit hears God. Spirit- ual people mind the Spirit fRomans 814, 5j and follow the Good Shepherd Qjohn l0:27j. Though our farewell is with some regret, it is also with satisfaction that we give you, with your talents and Christian devotion, to the Lord and the church. STONER, CLYDE B. Route 4, Lancaster, Pa. Secretary-treasurer, Bookkeeping, Typing, Music To the Class of l955: YVithin the heart and mind of every person is a desire to be a success in life. Before you is a choice to dedicate your life in service to Christ and the church and the needs of man- kind or to dedicate your life in service to self. Wlien We try to direct our life Pattern and make it move in ways pleasing and satisfying to our own desires instead of humbly accepting God's plan for us, we find life empty and vain. Wfherever you go and whatever you find to do may you always find delight in the ways of the Lord, for He has promised in so doing to give you the desires of your heart. 15 BAUMAN, HARVEY W. MARY Lois PETRE Student Religious Program There are those experiences throughout the routine week of school which make living itself a deeper blessing. Of these, Student Religious Program holds a unique place because it is a program in which we stu- dents participate. This participation includes leading the student body in singing, discussing one of the topics, conducting the opening devotional period or moderating the meeting. Tuesday morning programs are espe- cially well appreciated because the student is given the opportunity to ex- press his opinions. The Well-timed remarks of the principal are a fitting conclusion to each program. EILEEN HART Conjoint Prayer Circle Thursday evening! Yes, We met together, boys and girls, in the large front room on the second floor of the girls' dormitory for weekly conjoint prayer circle. There in quietness we received challenges for our present and future lives. YVe sang and prayed togetherg we meditated on God's Wordg we grew spiritually. Those were happy times. A facultylmember, or occasionally a visiting speaker, brought to us the words of life and wisdom. The memory of those evenings is hallowed. May those who succeed us also enjoy the privilege of these uplifting times. HULDAH M. GRAYBILL Mornni Watch An unusual silence always prevailed in the dormitory at 7:40 each morning. Peeping into our lives you would have found our thoughts reaching heavenward. For in this quiet atmosphere We have received the spiritual strength which was so essential throughout our high school days. Our om- niscient Guide, through His Word, inspired us and revealed promises which filled our individual needs. We communed with God through prayer and found Him so willing to carry our burdens and solve our problems. As We Went to classes we had a melody in our hearts and the sweet con- sciousness of His abiding presence because we started the day right-with God. Q45 All students who at- tend L.M.S. assemble to- gether in chapel to have an inspiring worship ex- perience which gives us a proper start for the day. Q55 Mfater is composed of the elements hydrogen and oxygen. Oxygen sup- ports burniug and hydro- gen burns, but their com- bination is used to stop burning. How strange! Q65 After a morning of study one usually finds himself with a sizable ap- petite, which is appeased for a while with a tasty dinner. C75 This is followed by an enjoyable sport that limbers up the unused muscles and joints. Q85 The games are end- ed and our minds are now challenged with the great ways ol' God in Bible Doc- trine class. C95 The language and customs of the German people, to whom many of us are related, are studied in German class. U05 Typing class devel- ops nimble Hngers, pro- vides a method of handing in neat papers, and pre- pares one for future olhce work. fllj School life would be just half as interesting if it were not for the social activities that help us to know each other better. U25 Food digestion op- erates much more smooth- ly when laughter adds its spice. C135 Finally a period ol study has arrived after a day of receiving assign- ments, but even then one sometimes finds it is dili- cult to study. flllj VVho will sell the most cars this year, Chevy, Ford, or Plymouth? Many ol these weighty matters are discussed when the men get together. U55 The day has come to a close and it is time for sleep once more. Strange, sleep doesn't seem so sweet as it did this morning. Laurel Wreath Dear Friends, We are delighted to introduce to you Lancaster Mennonite School, our alma mater. She is nestled in a beautiful woods beside old Mill Creek in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She is 'the home of the most beautiful birds, the most fragrant flowers, and all the greatest delicacies nature can afford to share. Since this school adopted us for her own it is with greatest pleasure that we can say, Our alma materf' For us to fully explain what we mean by L.M.S. would require 180 days, because every moment something happens. This, of course, is not possible so our second-best resort was to pause awhile, long enough to get our pictures taken and their explanations written, thus making this The Laurel NVreath for 1955. We hope that you will love L.M.S. better after this visit, for in doing so you will Hnd great enjoyment in gaining a new friend, our alma mater. 4 Sincerely, THE EDITORS LAUREL WREATH STAFF Lois G. ANICE SENSENIG Chorale Singers The heavens are telling the glory of God, The wonder of His work displays the firmamentf' What an inspiration it is to hear a group of young people blending their voices together in songs such as the one quoted above. A desire for good music and an appreciation for the great hymns of the church through challenging anthems and choruses prompted the organizing of this new chorus this year, which is now known as, The Chorale Singers. The fellowship afforded through the singing of these more difficult anthems and choruses is stimulating and provides an atmosphere of whole- some enjoyment of musical talents. This chorus of forty-five members meets one period each week for practice with the enjoyment of producing music of a good quality on a highly spiritual plane. We are challenged by the music we sing, not only to master the fine art of singing harmoniously but to aspire to the high ideals of Christian living presented to us by the thoughts expressed in the anthems we sing. CLYDE B. STONER Ladies Chorus Our attention is given to Sister Murnaw as she stands before us each Tuesday and Thursday after school. We see her hand upraised and then as she gives the signal, our lips open and the joy within bursts out in the form of song. What a blessing We receive as we sing praises to our Lord! Our desire is to magnify Christ and Christ alone. I will sing unto the Lord a new songg for he hath done marvellous things? ESTHER JONES Senior Chorus Each Tuesday afternoon the seniorichorus can be heard singing lustily in the auditorium under the leadership of Brother Stoner. The senior chorus has sung at several school programs and also at the Thanksgiving social and Christmas program. This year they have attempted The Heav- ens Are Telling and several numbers with sheet music arrangement. Cer- tainly each chorus member has experienced the deep joy of singing praise to God from l1is heart, both personally and with the whole chorus. Lois KRADY unior Chorus Junior Chorus is the most important chorus at L.M.S. It is the place where younger students get their first introduction to singing in a chorus. It is there they learn some of the elements of singing. They sing simple but challenging songs in which they learn to a. sing notes b. follow their leader c. sing accurately. Yes, Junior Chorus is the most important chorus at L.M.S.g it is where members of the other choruses have gotten most of their training.
