F01'CWV01'fl This has truly been a year of Ioy, of excitement, ot happiness, and of work-A TIME TO REMEMBER! In planning your I962 TIGER TALES I have tried to portray the high points of the past school year- the football games, the Junior-Senior Banquet, and the seemingly unimportant everyday events-which have played such a very important part in our lives. I would like to thank our sponsor and co-operative statt, who have contributed their time and hard work, It has been a great pleasure to serve as your editor. For you to get as much happiness from these pages as I have from compiling them is my ultimate goal. Your editor, PAT MILLER X ' new gg, 'Y Tffwwwww K fy, ,, wf f'?:' ---- . ALFRED For his interest in each of us and in whatever we do, For his loyalty to high standards of living, patriotism and duty, For his devotion to Lancaster High School, and the present and future welfare of its students. For his sharing a sense of humor with us, For his insistence that we maintain high academic standards and that we look toward our own futures and the futures of our community and nation, and that we, in Lan- caster High School, help meet this challenge of the '6O's. For what he is, and for what he helps us to be, We, the staff, proudly dedicate our T962 Tiger Tales, to our principal, MR. W. W. ALFRED, who has taught us citizenship, respect, and honor in addition to being our friend. THE STAFF 5 ef Ei 52 '5 n 1 4 1 i . 1 J Lancaster Board Education SCHOOL BOARD Left to righf: Mr. Charles Edwards, Mr. Bobby Davis, Mr. Dan Blake, Mr. Laurence Roddy, Dr. David E Krebs-president, Mrs. Floy Lewis-secre1ary, Mr. J. E. Dawson-superintendent, Mr. Lawrence Brockington and Mr. Randolph Miller. MRS. MICKEY MCDANIEL Secretary to the Superintendent MR. J. E. DAWSON Superintendent of Schools TO THE CLASS OF 1962: We hear much of the Challenge of the '6O's . . . yet in reality it is the same challenge which has faced every generation as it comes of age in our beloved country. lt is the challenge to establish a home, to render service to community and nation,Ato be able to care for one's own financial needs, and to make home, community, and nation better because you have been there. Yet in the challenge of the '6O's comes a need for reinforcement of one of the oldest prin- ciples of American living-the resurgence of the individual's feeling of responsibility in every area of life. lt is my sincere hope that your years in Lancaster High School have helped provide you with an understanding of your need-and our country's need-for your living as a responsible individual, and that you do your part, to the fullest of your ability, to see that this nation and the principles which have, under God, made it great, do not perish from the earth. Sincerely, MR. W. W. ALFRED Principal, Lancaster High School We of Lancaster High School are concerned with Education as it affects our rights and privileges, our duties and responsibilities. As students and citizens of a Democracy, it is important that we be able to distinguish between these rights, and equip ourselves to be able to cope with problems affecting our future. To the class graduated I wish for them success now and in later years. To those of you who still have years to spend in Lancaster High School, it is time for you to take inventory. Have you received fully what has been offered? Have you offered anything of value to your fellow students? To the faculty and student body I say thank you for your cooperation and untiring effort that has made this school year a most productive and enioyable one. May the desire for knowledge and truth be with you always. May God bless and keep us one and all. Sincerely, .WI W Finley seeks help. MISS ELSIE ROBERTSON Counselor TO THE CLASS OF 1962: As you go from the halls of Lancaster High into wider areas of business, education, and living, it is my earnest wish that you understand that as others have contributed material help to you, have provid- ed opportunities, shared experiences, and attempted to open vvider doors to your vision, you in turn will have opportunity and responsibility for doing the same for those with whom you come into contact. As you work and live for good vvill, peace, and understanding, your life and vvork will merge with those before you who have stood for Right and Good. With our great pride in you is mingled a hope that in some tangible way LHS has contributed mate- rially to your determination to live constructively not only for yourself, but for others, and for God and our country, When you recall days in LHS, bear in mind that Her children suffer no defeat . . . and that it is sung for you too, wherever you are. TOP ROW: Tommy Bowman John Beck Wayne Smith, Jimmy Parker, and Carl Harris. Lancaster Cross-Country teams participated in meets at Lancaster, Duncanville, Kimball, Jesuit, and the State meet. The Tigers won the meets on their home course and at Duncanville, and placed second in the Kimball meet. Bad luck, however, hit them after that. Through the first lap'ot the State meet it looked as it Lancaster would win the meet, but then two of the Tigers' top runners fell out of the race and Lancaster finished in sixth place. Despite this, it was the best year Lancaster has ever had in cross-country. SPORT PHOTOGRAPHERS Mr. Hanscom and Tommy Beesley IF-immune f Y ,if .
