Activity Council Student Activity Advisory Council members are James Duffer, Adrian Etheridge, Joe Carpenter, Mike Bruck- ner, Stewart Lowery, Ronny Huckeby, Tommy Duff, Donald Cheshier, John Hubbard, Tom McCoy, Emily York, Ann McGeath. Chris Parker, Trecia Stinson, Ruth Ann Green, Jerrine Cleveland, Siegmund Sivek. These are the elected representatives from the thirteen homerooms, plus the presidents of the Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes as a whole. The group works for school improvement and sponsors activities benefiting the school as a whole. This year the SAAC sponsored Howdy Day in early fall, helped with Homecoming preparations, including a Welcome Ex-esi' banner, helping elect a Homecoming Queen, and sponsoring a general 4'Clean-Up Weekf, They helped plan the Christmas Parade, making a float of their own which was a prize winner. One committee helped plan and arrange assembly programs, and almost all members worked toward making Career Day a success. Many Council members acted as hosts and hostesses on Career Day, along with members of other campus clubs, on this day which brings up-to-date vocational guidance to all members of the LHS student body here on the home campus. Earlier SAAC projects have included pioneering the way for the beautiful trophy case in the front hall by earn- ing the first money towards its purchase, purchasing and presenting the intramural plaque for winners of spring intramurals. An unfulfilled Council dream is for a lawn in front of high school and more campus benches. Mrs. Ruth Clark and Miss Elsie Robertson are co-sponsors of this group. Future Teachers of L.H.S. IN DESKS-Kitsy Pruitt, president, first semester, and Paula Cheshier. Meeting place is the class- room of their sponsor, Miss Winnie Shaw. The Elsie Robertson Club of the Texas Future Teachers of America is small but very active. In regular meetings, members planned and prepared their many activities, and also had programs, two of which were talks by Mr. M. E. Galbreath, on Why I Love To Teach, and by Supt. J. E. Dawson on What I Look For When I Employ A Teacherf, Other activities included putting names on report cards for teachers, class rolls on grade sheets for the office, sewing coffee to the faculty during National Education Week, and sewing as substitute teachers in elementary schools upon occasion. Members eamed a Certificate of Award for assistance to Mrs. Sue Wilson, director of the Science Fair, during preparations for the Fair. Members also entered a float in the Christmas Parade in December. In February the Club members presented the program for the Junior-Senior High P.T.A., with the devotional by John Pillow, a former member, music by Mary Strain, a member, assisted by Carole Board, Mary Frances Berry, and Ruth Ann Brooks as a French horn quartet. A skit on the P.T.A. theme, 'ilfducationz Inclusive or Exclu- sive? was written and presented by other members. When the Paris, Texas, School System sent representatives to Lancaster to study the reading program in West Main Elementary School, Future Teachers served coffee and cookies on their arrival. Also on Career Day in the spring, members were hostesses in some sections to visiting consultants. The National Charter, the Certificate of Affiliation from Texas and the Science Fair Certificate of Award were framed by the club. Also members attended the District V meeting at Birdville, where Mary Strain entered the contest for Miss T.F.A. of District V. Mona Covill represented the Club at the State Meeting of T.F.T.A. in Denton. The culminating event of the year was a dinner and strolling shopping tour of recently-opened Big Town.
