B AND The Lancaster Central Marching and Concert Band fSenior Bandj is presently made up of musicians from the 7th grade through 12th grade. The administrative end of the Band is run by three band officers, the Drum Maiorette, and six section leaders. There is an a- ward system in Band which provides for the earning of points. At the end of a school year all members who have earned 700 points during that year receive a certificate of merit. By the time a band member is a Senior, has accumulated a total of at least 3000, and has been a member of Senior Band his Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years, he will receive a letter sweater. Pins are also given to two outstanding graduating seniors in Band. This year the Band officers wrote and published a Band Handbook. There are five ba- ton twirlers and a Drum Maiorette, all six known as the Lancaster Central Marching Maior- ettes. Also, this year they have introduced, and incorporated into the Band as a second rank of girls behind the Nlarching Maiorettes, five Flag twirlers. Last summer the Band participated in the Marching Band Contest at the Delaware County Fair in Muncie, Indiana, and also marched at Indianapolis at the Indiana State Fair. A- bout the time school started, the Marching Band performed all three nights of the Bluffton Street Fair. During the school year the Band plays at all the home basketball games. This year the Band marched at four home games, the Marching Maiorettes at two games, the Flag twirl- ers at one, and the Junior twirlers at one. ln February thirty-four students went to the district music contest, and four to the state contest. ln Nlarch they performed at the de- dication of our new school building. In April they participated in the County Music Festival and late in the spring gave a joint concert with the High School Chorus. OUR BAND
