Even as these words are being written, the urgency of the times is underscoring and giving new interpretation to this idea. Tremendous . speeds, guided missiles, and satellites have caused the world to become so small that a seemingly insignifi- cant border incident on the other side of the globe can be most significant to us and to our future. The schools of today are preparing the leaders I. E. Brown of tomorrow. It is imperative that we produce men Superiritendent of Schools and women of quality. These times demand of us an understanding of the forces moving our world today. If man can meet and win this Challenge, it will of necessity be done by an educated and enlightened mind. This concern cannot diminish for the problems growing out of the social, economic, and political disturbances of the 20th century make man- datory a continuous search for greater excellence in American secondary education if we are to survive and prosper in the great competition among nations for leadership, markets, and the minds of men.
