The future looms brightly and invitingly for those of you whose pictures and names appear within the Mirage for the last time. Each of you, I am sure, is eager to tackle the next steps in your future. All of you share the bitter- sweet emotions of both anticipation and regret that go with graduating from high school. The future you face is one of the most challenging, and yet most difficult ever presented to a graduating class. The marvels of the atomic age are just being developed. Man is making tremendous strides forward in space ex- ploration, and medical science has conquered more of the crippling illnesses and holds promise for yet more startling discoveries. Each of you will have the opportunity to share in the excitement of growth and discovery in any or all of these fields. Some age-old problems also remain to be conquered. Despite our vast technological advances, we seem not to have discovered the key to living together in peace and happiness. Disease, ignorance, and starvation remain the lot of countless millions of the earthls population. These problems and others of similar nature present a challenge as demanding and important as any in the scientific fields. J. E.
