As our second AFS student, Zafer Was Well liked and an accepted part of LHS. Though he did not know of the liie of Americans, he adapted to us easily. He took part in many school activities, showing enthusiastic school spirit and ambition. Though Zafer seemed quiet and reserved, he was quick to catch on to American humor. His easy laugh and quiet determination made him a popular figure at Lancaster Senior High. As juniors and sopho mores We Will remember him as a friendg as seniors We will think of him as an experience. ABOVE: Ali Zafer Uzgfir. RIGHT: Zafer displays the costumes of his native land. Now think how unusual it is that in the midst of all this insanity one girl should remain quite normal and fall in love with her bosses son. Placing all these characters in one situation is destined to be humorous. And it was in the three -act play You Can't Take It With You. 5 PROM: SOME ENCHANTED EVENING The imaginary moments of Some Enchanted Evening took place in a softly lit courtyard of a mystic castle. The atmosphere of stately, stone pillars in the midst of billowing clouds removed the dancing couples to a land of kings and queens and enchanted evenings. The courtyard was enhanced by delicate wrought iron furniture in the stone paved colonnade which enclosed the garden. The path from the colonnade led to the throne room where the King and Queen would reign. ln the center of the terrace was a majestic portico surrounded by a garden of pink shrubs and pastel trees. At the height of the evening the royal court was pre- sented by Master and Mistress of Ceremonies, Bob Luckey and jane Kinney. The court of Ann Hoskins es- corted by Danny Skaife, Nancy Wright escorted by Terry Budd, Anne Zellinger escorted by jim Becker, and Nancy Udelhoven escorted by Pat Paulin witnessed the corona- tion of Queen Susie Griswold and King Larry Irish. The march ended at the school Where the blazing inferno created an aura of excitement for all the festivities. The revengeful Dodgers were met the next night With convincing competition and the prize We sought Was Won. A Vic- tory dance followed the game and left all With pleasant memories. 8 WINTER SPORTS QUEEN: FIRST ANNUAL CORONATION january 27, l967, saw the crowning of the first Win- ter Sports Queen, the honor going to Barbara Baus. The announcement of the queen was kept secret un- til the presentation at the basketball game. Barb proved to be an excellent choice. When she was an- nounced the cheers Were deafening and the following congratulations many and sincere. The queen Was selected by the L Club members. Broadway came to Lancaster this past fall in the form of the smash hit, Li'l Abner. lt required young actors and actresses with imagination and enthusi- ' asm, and Lancaster Senior High had just such stu- dents. Mammy was as stubborn and determined as Al Capp could ever want her. The portrayal of Daisy was sweet and loving in her chase after Abner, Whose only fault was his druthers. I-Ie presented a char- acter of carefree boyhood. The twittering, busy little personality of Marryin' Sam was forever running back and forth tying male to female. General Bull- moose, Appassionata, and Earthquake were all typi- cal criminals until the last minute, when Earthquake stepped from them to become an overnight hero. 10 f?EA?3sS2:'LSi5Fii?sKfQ SMr 1 QQ' .1 1 , QQ '-. s r f f . The judging was based on the originality of the costumes. Cal Snider and Linda Schildgen Were-chosen as the royal couple. 12 CABARET: SNO-BALL CABARET HEADS WINTER ACTIVITIES With talent, hard Work, and a lot of fun, the chorus presented the 1967 Sno -ball Cab- aret. This Variety show has been a tradi- tion in the school sponsored programs since 1953. Acts Varied from a soft shoe appeal- ing to the elders to a modern combo for the young. The financing, through the selling of advertisements and the books themselves, was under- taken in October. Also in October, the heads of each department of the yearbook staff attended a journalism conference at Platteville where new concepts and ideas were shared. With this background, the staff prepared to meet its first deadline. The need for pictures created a photography clubg for the first time, LHS took and developed its own pictures for the yearbook. Written accounts of the year's events and activities became a basic innovation along with the new plans and designs. Through the influence of a new publisher, additional pages, and a new format, we hope to have accurately presented a picture of the year now gone by. In forensics there are four levels of competition, local, sub-district, district, and state. At the local level two contestants are chosen from each of the cate- gories except the plays of which only one is sent. At the following levels those receiving A ratings continue. There are nine fields of competition, play acting, reading of prose or poetry, four minute speeches, original oration, significant speeches, public address, and extemporaneous speaking. Each category is different and pro- vides a field of interest for everyone. ABOVE: DECLAMATIONS: SIT- TING: julie Adams, Linda Graneyg STANDING: Vicki Yoose, Lois Kaiser, Lee Kirschbaum, jean Hahn. Who are the first to jump up and down when we make a touchdown? The LHS Cheerleaders excel in meeting these qualifications. They have instilled excitement in the crowd, and put the crowd's excitement in the athletes. And who keeps trying to rouse the Ll-IS spirit when the team is behind? Who plays the songs we know so well with the dig- nity that each fine musical work merits? None other then the LHS Pep Band. To all of these people we extend a note of appreciation. Though the loss of last year's players was great, they overcame it to gain many victo- ries. This team had its difficulties getting off to a good startg many a game saw the Arrows not gett- ing really hot until late in the second quarter. However, the determination not to give up brought many a thrill and many a victory. A strong strategy point of the Arrows was to switch positions played during the half, fea- turing another of the members in the key scor- ing position. Lancaster found ease in doing this with each of its members well established as shooters.
