Our services have been volunteer after-school duties that required sacrifice by all, but in return we gained satisfaction and the thrill of accomplishment. Carol Sada, Judi Wood and Penny Young gave most dependable service until the book went to press. John Wrobbel did a Fine quality of work on the illustrations. In the above photo we proudly present our members: ist: 2nd 3rd: 4th- 5th: C.Sada, T.Shrigley, J.Wood, P.Young, A.Roll M.Deutschlander, L.Lang, T.Rohl, J.Von Sickle C.Bainbridge, N.Jamison, P.Reger, M.Roll, Mrs. Pilarslci, J.Weil D.Smith, J.Kegler, L.Schmitz, D.Van Sickle, F.Ward, C.CoIli- flower Miss Bates, E.Kinner, R.Nowinski, B.Willard, Miss Fritz I 957 CAYUGAN . ,- . tLf,9,'it9W5Yd 4 l We graduates of 1957 face a world where the atom dominates -- and threatens. lt is our task to use our education in two ways: to keep the world at peace and further the scientific benefits of our time. America needs more than skilled chemists, engineers, and technical experts. Our class, and those like us all over the nation, must have minds trained for leadership, good judgment, and courage to solve the problems ofthe twentieth, the atomic, century. Al- though his position as Personnel Direc- tor at Scott Aviation Corporation in Lancaster is a demanding one, we are grateful that Mr. Winter has given un- sparingly of his time to further the in- terests of the Lancaster Public Schools. 8 I. THE TEACHER IN THE ATOMIC AGE Today's teachers must give their students o clear under- standing of the problems they will face in our atomic world. Teachers can help us meet economic problems by ground- ing us in the courses necessary for today's business and industry. They can improve students' skill in communicating and ex- pressing ideas. Above all, they can teach us tolerance of races, religions and backgrounds different from our own so that we can live peacefully together in one a- tomic world. lucully WOMEN lst: Miss George, Miss Ordway, Miss Wamer, Miss Davies, Miss Diana 2nd: Miss Rine, Miss Conley, Miss Smedley, Miss Trebb 3rd and 4th: Miss Ryba, Miss Bates, Miss Pumam, Miss Fritz, Mrs. Pilarski, Miss Zuber, Mrs. Vas- binder, Mrs. Seaward, Miss Van Natter, Miss Kudrna, Miss Tomczak, Miss Snyder MEN lst: Mr. Kelleher, Mr. Hagberg, Mr. Simon, Mr. Jamieson, Mr. Pascucci, Mr. Simmons Mr. Boffa 2nd: Mr. Kane, Mr. Welch, Mr. Lundy, Mr. Patterson, Mr. Nitchke 3rd and 4th: Mr. Java, Mr. Lindsay, Mr. Kaminske, Mr. Roaldi, Mr. Arrigo, Mr. Walter, Mr. Bar- bara, Mr. Foyle, Mr. Carney, Mr. Gessert, Mr. Koester, Mr. Wright, Mr. Kemp ,Hx QAXI, R., f . , x HEALTH STAFF Mrs.Vasbinder, Miss Beeman, Mrs.Taylor, Mrs.Domroes, Mrs.WoIko and Miss Baird assisted Dr.Addesa in giving Salk vaccine to L.C.H.S. students who had no previous protection. SQL .. fn-N SENIOR OFFICERS EDWARD KINNER, PRESIDENT JAMES KEGLER, VICE-PRESIDENT PENELOPE YOUNG, SECRETARY LAWRENCE SCHMITZ, TREASURER history In the great atomic era unfolding be- fore us, the motto of the Seniors, Ours is the world, takes on a more effective meaning. Scientists are gradually be- coming masters of our world. Perhaps one of our classmates will have some part in this great research that should build a better life for us all. To handle our class problems system- atically, we organized in our sophomore year under the guidance of Miss Henzler. Our officers were Paul Ezzo, president, James Kegler, vice-president, Karen Bellas, secretary, Carol Sada, treasurer. The class sold magazines and Christmas cards to boost the treasury. Our Sweet- heart Dance as well as our socials are now happy memories. In our iunior year the class was led by John Wrobbel, president, Francis Dal- conzo, vice-president, Penelope Young, secretary, and Alice Roll, treasurer. We chose our class colors, ink and charcoal grey, and our flower, the pink rose. Climaxing our year's events Queen Mar- ilyn Roll and King James Kegler reigned over the first annual Junior-Senior Ball. Now we have reached our final year, with the distinction of being that last Senior Class to walk these beloved halls. We worked under the leadership of our new adviser, Mr. Roaldi, and our officers Edward Kinner, president, James Kegler, vice-president, Penelope Young, secretary and Lawrence Schmitz, treasurer. We sponsored a successful yearbook patron drive, our third magazine and card sale, the Sadie Hawkins Dance, class socials and a Splash Party. We now anticipate the Senior Play, Arsenic and Old Lace, our last big ball, and a sad but wonderful finale -- graduation. Judi Wood, Penelope Young, '57 S. The court of Queen Marilyn Roll and King James Kegler consisted of the first and third at- tendants from the Junior Class, Carol Rexiclcer, Ronald Martzolf, Ruth Fragale, and Kenneth Cummings. Attendants from the Senior Class were Janice Karl, Joseph Palermo, Louise Phil- lips, and Robert Weirick. Pink, charcoal gray and white crepe paper formed the canopied ceiling. Dancing to the strains of Kal Stuart's Band, we noticed the theme, Moments to Remember, carried out in the decorations--- symbols of our sports, dramas, hot rods, exams, graduation. The dance was preceded by a colcetail party, it concluded with a trip to the Glen Ca- sino and Niagara Falls. These are the memories of a wonderful evening cherished by both classes. lb-'rm .4o LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP CHARACTER SERVICE Miss George and Miss Diana, advisers is ' E S EADQQSHIR ociet senior Seated: M.Ro11, C.Bainbridge, L.Lang Standing: P. Winning 7out of 8 games, Lancaster lost the Division Il championship only to a strong Cleveland Hill club. Coaches Simon and Kaminske took their group of young iuniors and a few veteran seniors, and molded a top-notch team that almost retained the title for a second year, playing excellent football in every game. and the week after their one defeat, came Undaunted, the boys on the team worked hard, back to end the season with a smashing victory over Amherst fDivision I champs, with a score of 20-6. It compensated to some extent for their loss of the Division II championship. Led in scoring by their offensive demon, Lou Gnagnarelli, and their Fine rebound artist, Frank Beyer, they were able to clinch a second place berth in Division ll competition. Much credit is also due to the defensive play of the team captain, Ron Martzolf. Never outfought, the great senior group of Jim Kegler, Ron Martzolf, Frank Beyer, Bill Rosenthal, George Besch, and Lou Gnagnarelli have left an excellent court record. SCORES . . . .
