Their diplo- ma, a feather for their head- piece, signified that courage against known and unknown dangers, endurance to continue despite physical hardships, self-control, respect for their elders and reverence for their gods had become an integral part of their personalities . Today Lancaster Central High School has equipped us modem Cayugans with the skills necessary to overcome the challenges of our complex society. Different as these skills may seem from those needed by the Indian inhabitants of Lancaster, the self-same attitudes must be present inus for success . Our edition of the Cayugan proposes to prove that the fine traits of the Cayuga Indians still walk the halls of Lancaster High in the twentieth century. pqqvvvx -W - -.-v-- --VV V-V-----P . f-v-- - Y- Af---w---rw -a--Q---nf - ...I .-.Q .ang-.. ,..,a.... But we cannot forget the encourage- ment and loyal support you gave us during our years at L.H.S. You foresaw how necessary a high school diploma would be in today's changing world, so you gave us the chance to eam one . You cheered our athletic and social activities and gave your hard-eamed wampum to make our life at school more enjoyable . You had a full schedule of daily work, yet took time to chap- erone our dances, attend our games, and serve on the P.T.A. So our class of '56 says a sin- cere Thank You to our parents . We hope to be a credit to you when L.H.S. is just a memory. SECRETARY Carol Anne Brown CLASS ADVISER MR BARBARO PRESIDENT Robert Giza ar--f CLASS HI TORY UR class began its high school trail with a flying start when we nominated Mr. Barbaro as class chief. Our officers for the sophomore year were: john java, presidentg Robert, Giza, vice presidentg Diane DeBacy, secretary: Joseph Palermo, treasurer. Our biggest success in ob- taining wampum was the annual Sophomore Hop . 13 VICE PRESIDENT Diane DeBacy TREASURE R john java We also held class socials to acquaint the class braves with their partners . Another step nearer our goal, our junior year, brought Diane DeBacy as president: Robert Giza, vice president: Lynne Wood, secretary, and Carol Anne Brown, Heasurer. We selected black and silver as our class colors and lily of the val ley as our class flower. We sponsored Sports Night, sold School Daze and had a successful magazine sale. Our plans for the next year in- cluded the combining of the juniorProm and Sen- ior Ball. When we reached the final lap of our trail, the senior year, we elected Robert Giza as pres- identg Diane DeBacy, vice president: Carol Anne Brown, secretary, and john java, treasurer. We sponsored a successful Sadie Hawkins Dance, class social and a splash party. We have now completed our drive for patrons and the final preparation of our yearbook. With our Senior Play and Senior Ball coming soon, we will work hard to make them a grand success . The'time we have all been waiting for is close, graduation. With the years at our fa- vorite tepee, L.H.S., behind us, the Class of 1956 can truthfully boast of its motto when we gather at future pow-wows, We are young, but the years have no monopoly on courage -W-,YU W--Vv ----L-rwfv-----, - W-rv-----r-'--'-- --' - ,pn , , .,.,. ., ,run , V kj Qk,'Q19'!Cff7 'X-J A' Jfffffffl ffc,fc fm 5, 1,445 CQ 5 ,QQ . 4'r'Lf ,!L6f,!' This is done through colored slides, and lively con- versations about French cooking, fashions, and automobiles . Games, charades, and even Bingo help put into practical use the vocabulary learned in class. Here we see the happy merger of fun and learning. Superior students are able to attain recogni- tion through membership in the French Honor Society and through the National French Contest. 48 Santa to C .Bryantz Que voulez vous pour Noel? 1956 ART COMMITTEE ' Kathleen Budzinski, Marie Layer, Miss Bates, Linda Laney, David Wheeler, Miss Fritz, Betty Wojick, JoAnn de Armas, Catherine Werick, Bonnie Ellk, John Hughes HE Art Committee of Lancaster Central High School is a service organ- ization, working for the promotion of worthwhile art projects within the school. By june a well-designed dum mey had materialized, due to their hard work and persistent efforts. Under the supervision of Miss Fritz photograph ic operations began early this September and con- tinued daily as the year's activities progressed. Divisional page layouts were the work of three most conscientious members of the art staff -- Diane DeBacy, Mona Madge, and Barbara Nelson. Carol Luke took charge of the all-important patrons' campaign, which netted the class several hundred dollars toward the yearbook expenses. The advisers wish to congratulate this staff on the high standard of their work, their ability to work together, and their ability to meet the vary- ing situations in yearbook designing with patience Miss Fritz with photographers R.Braun and R Nowinski and flexibility. It is the growth of these qualities in the students who help produce our Cayugan that makes it such a worthwhile school endeavor. SPORTS GT. . al Rx W Swami. 2' WK'-n if K A .,..
