Let us now attempt to recall the many times a formidable horde of Kruisaders crushed oppos- ing teams who were nice enough to play us. Manheim Township opened the playing season for us. Coach Kruis, exposing a slight pessimism, promised that his team would try to keep the op- ponents' score down. Furthermore, he prophe- sied. The Blue Streaks will know they've been in a hall game. Lnofficially, we rather imagine he was right. Score 24-0. Crusaders on top. Norristown was next in line before the purple and gold liquidation force. Lancaster, picked as a 21 point pre-game favorite, surprised no one when it left the field with a 59-6 victory. Catholic struck a catastrophe at Ephrata next as Lancaster floated to a 44-6 revenge for the previ- ous yearis reversed decision. ln our first league game, Delone made her suici- dal plunge under the Catholic assault. Score: 33-0, Delone, badly bruised losing. To many it was one of the season's most pleasant surprises. By then the neighbors started talking. How would we fare against a really strong team like Carlisle, next on the list. Actions spoke louder than words when, after an extremely close riff, Lancaster was announced victor 7-6. If the ball hadn't bounced back into the kicker's face on the Carlisle try for extra point, a mere tie would have resulted. You can therefore understand the new-found affection Coach Kruis holds for every splinter in a pair of uprights. We had the only team to hand defeat to strong Columbia High School this season. This con- test was predicted to end so close that newspaper prognosticators were eventually driven into flip- ping a coin to determine whom to root for. Catholic won the toss and went on to win the game 25-0. The Crusaders were then made,'. Then. as a thief in the night, disaster struck in a crushing blow. The inevitable occurred as a Lewistown team abruptly discontinued the Cru- sader's winning streak. Fortunately. it was not a league game. Hope was soon regained as Lancaster went on to score consecutive victories over York 20-0 and Lebanon. Perhaps the Lebanon game will stand foremost in our minds as a unique example of bow a really good team can perform under ex- tremely adverse conditions. Here the adversity was fog, of the most dense variety. So thick was it, that the coach could scarcely make out the far end of his players' bench. For all we know, the opposite bleachers were not even there. Lebanon carried the broken fragments of their team off the field, having lost 40-0. ,lust one more victory and that over Harrisburg meant the title. Dr. Kruis predicted, They'll kill us. It might have been Harrisburg's third straight crown if the Crusaders hadn,t defeated the former champs in a havoc-filled 13-7 tourna- ment. The Central Pennsylvania Catholic League cham- pionship, a fine gesture befitting this group of boys, as a perfect season had been reached. Upon completing the season, the team discovered that it had 1 lj been named the foremost scholas- tic team in the country, 121 earned for the school the Red Rose Award for bringing glory to the name of Lancaster, 13h broken all school scoring records, both offensively and defensively, with its 272 points to opponents' 39, 44-it made up al- Decisions! Coach Craupensberger, looking for someone to fight Lebanon, looks also for someone able to fight fog. The Crusaders won 40-0. .f af ,1 N4 'yn' V K 9- .1 'v X f I , E 'X x in fe.. 48 .N fx it X I Eau J' gf .-.
